Its a no go :(

Also, if you've applied for a lot of credit recently, that will hurt your score as well; especially if the applications were done all in the same 30 days or so. Revolving or unsecured credit makes the most difference in your score, so you will have a higher score if you are able to get a credit card and make timely payments on it. If you are being denied, wait 30-60 days and apply for a secured card.

Does anyone know with the Chase disney debit card how much you have to leave in your account to keep it active? i saw on the site it said we need to have $25 to start (which i no problem we can do that now), i just need to know how much we need to keep in. some places need like $20 and some places one cent.

It's a regular checking account. Chase might have minimums before being hit up with a fee, not sure on that. I have had the account VERY low,and never had a problem :)

well yes we really dont need a CC, but it would be nice to establish our credit and have it for emergnacies. of course we would make a purchase once a month to keep it active. when i say current loan that just means that we took out a small loan about 2 months ago and still making payments on it (cause DH refuses to just pay it off even though we have the money too)

The only things I can think of:

Are you or your husband working full time? Are one of you extremely young? Do you both of your incomes on the credit application? You sound like you are making good economic/credit choices...these are the only things I can think of.

This would be frustrating to me. You can get approved for a mortgage, but not a credit card! Well, I like your idea of a secured credit card, then maybe you could get a regular one in a couple years. Good luck!

They turned me down because I don't have any other credit. I haven't used credit since I paid my car off 10 years ago.

I was only going to use the card for our trip, pay the balance when we got home, and enjoy the discounts.

I chalked this up as just another way the credit business in America is totally screwed up. If you live on what you make... they hold it against you!

The car title loan could be a factor as well. I've been told that those kinds of emergency "quick cash" type of loans reflect badly on potential borrowers these days because they suggest a lack of cash reserves or a paycheck-to-paycheck lifestyle.

Personally, coming from my totally biased cash-only perspective, I just wouldn't bother. The rewards aren't worth the headaches of getting the store or secured card you don't want just to work your way up to the card you do, particularly since most of the cards available to people without a strong credit history have fees attached. We were in the same position a while back. The Disney Visa was tempting, but after years with no debt other than a mortgage we'd have had to work up to it too and ultimately we decided it didn't make sense to pay for the priviledge of being part of a system we view as completely screwed up.

My 2 cents worth:
1. Use your denial letter to get the credit report they used for free. Have any mistakes corrected.
2. If you've applied for various cards within the last 3 months give it a break for a few months
3. after 3-4 months pull a different credit report, correct any mistakes
4. Read creditboards . com especially all the newbie stuff
5. After 8 months pull the last major credit report, correct any mistakes. This gets you on a rotation...you are allowed 1 free credit report a year from each of the three "big ones", TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax
6. Pay MyFico for a 1 time score...they usually give you advice on how to raise your scores. No reason to pull it now immediately after you've been denied. Wait until you're about ready to apply for a new card. If the score is bad then wait to apply...because if you're denied again it will just hurt your score. Use the scorematch link one of the above posters gave you to see if you would possibly qualify for a card. Secured cards usually charged a fee...not worth it to me just wait a few months.

7. In 3-4 months apply for a gas or department store type card if your score was good. If you have a Kroger or Ralphs their card is great and gives you rewards and coupons. Gas cards may give you a % off per gallon and dept store cards often have sales with extra % off and pre-sale notices.

Patience and educating yourself on how credit works will do wonders for you.

I had the same issue with Chase years ago- I didn't have *enough* credit history even though everything I was paying for- same as you- mortgage and car note, were always paid on time. One thing you might check into- depending on your mortgage, often you are eligible for a CC from the same company. For instance our mortgage was through Wells Fargo, so we were eligible for a Wells Fargo CC without any credit check. Also, join a credit union. Credit Unions issue their own CC's ( I know it's not the Disney Visa) often with better rates/terms than a bank card. I agree with others that just getting the Chase Disney Debit will probably suffice since you are doing well without a cc. A high credit score is a good thing though as it affects many things and it sounds like it would be very easy for your score to be stellar in a fairly short time by playing the game.---Kathy

well how are we supposed to get a card in the first place when we keep getting declined? we have tried disney chase, walmart, and capital one. kinda hard to build credit with a CC when no one will give you a CC. :confused3

You may have been declined for having so many requests for cards. Each time you apply it goes on the account. Lenders do not want to see a person who seems to be trying to get a lot of credit over a short time.
