It's a New Year for a New You Super Goofs team thread

Good morning Goofs. I am going to be a little MIA here and there for awhile. I have a lot on my plate right this minute and with the woods industry the way it is in Maine right now, I have no DH to speak of. Bear with me!!

They have decided to keep the teams going and I need a definite in from everyone who wants to participate this year. Our wonderful Susie has offered to take Dave's place as gamekeeper and peacekeeper. I wish her the best of luck in that area!!!

Also, anyone who would like to be the captain this year? It comes with all the glory, satisfaction and huge paycheck that most jobs of this nature come with!!:lmao: All kidding aside, I have loved being your captain but I feel I let you down sometimes with not being available to do the updates. If anyone else would like to give it a go, just say so. I would love to share the wealth!!

As I get confirmation from all of you, I will put the roster together. I need to get this in to Dave so the sooner you all confirm the better for me! Thanks Goofs, and remember, we ALL rock!!!

I'm in but I would be a terrible captain.

Yesterday I rode for 1.5 hours- really fun in 5 degree weather!
Ran on the treadmill for 2 miles in 22 minutes (about) and worked with personal trainer for 1/2 hour. I feel like I am faster and stronger when I run but my knee still flairs up but I am trying to run thru it to determine how bad the pain will be and if I can stand it.

Good morning, Lisa! I'm not really taking Dave's place, I'm only going to be helping with the backend - the spreadheets. I certainly can't replace Dave as a motivator, gameskeeper and peacekeeper. I'd be afraid WW3 would break out if I handled those aspects. ;)

As for you being a team leader, you're the best!!! You deserve a lot of KUDOS for your time and efforts. You kept this team going and you deserve a hefty bonus. I just wish we could give you one. :teeth: However, I can certainly understand if you want to step down. Sometimes it's good just to be a participant. :)

Something I've mentioned to Dave, and I certainly hope no one takes this the wrong way - I thought it might be good to scramble the teams up a little....mainly so that we all could get to know other WISHers. However, it appears that a lot of teams want to stay together. And, I can understand that. You get the right team dynamics going and it's hard to break that up. I'll always consider myself a Super Goof but I have toyed with the idea of moving to a different team -- ONLY to get acquainted with other WISHers. Or, as Debra has mentioned in another thread, maybe we could be like "cousins" and drop in on others every now and then. Of course, I know that we can do that now. ;) I don't know what the answer is at this point. I'm not sure what Dave has in mind with the teams going forward.

Mike - I'm so sorry about your knee. I can only imagine how disappointed you must be. Hopefully, the surgery won't hurt you too much with your training efforts. Sounds like you have a strong training base right now. I would think that would help you get back to speed after your recovery.

Meghan - hope you get better soon. I'm afraid I'm coming down with something nasty. I spent most of yesterday sneezing and hacking. Now, this morning, I have a runny nose. Ugh! I know, MI.

Joanne - good news about your DH joining you for the MCM. Here's some :wizard: for your knee. It sounds like you are able to get in some good Xtraining, though.

Kim - It's really hard getting back in the groove after doing the distance you did. I ought to know; I'm the worst at moving forward after these events. :sad2: Never heard of the Woodway. Interesting. Do you like it better than a regular TM?

Suzanne - way to go for getting the miles in. Brrrrr. You just never know about FL weather this time of year. Luckily for you guys, the really cold weather doesn't last too long. :)

Maura - you can do the Mickey!!!! You are really getting speedy. Way to go! Let us know how you like your new training program.

Laurie - it was good to see you at the marathon weekend. I can remember last year you were really nervous about doing the Mickey and now you completed your first Goofy and you're going to do it again! Whew! I suspect this will be a one-time event for me. :scared:

I want to stay on the team! I need to go gargle with salt water before talking to my mom or else she'll yell at me. Yes, I'm 32 and my mom still has to yell at me to gargle when I have a soar throat. It is more scratchy today, but I'll survive.

45 mins on the bike yesterday. Its in the mid 20's this morning with a full sheet of ice on my car, nothing outside again today. Like Susie said, luckily this will only last a few days, I am still in Florida right?!

I would love to stay on our team if you'll all have me. I said many times over marathon weekend, I don't think I would have been there if it wasn't for all of you. A couple of times during the 1/2, either I'd pass a Wisher or a Wisher would pass me and we'd chat for a minute or two. I always asked if they were on a team. Two said yes but they really didn't participate. I told them both that the Super Goofs were the best thing that ever happened to me!!   When I didn't feel like getting in a workout...I did it anyways so help the team. When I looked at the calendar and had "forever" until the marathon...I walked big miles most Tuesdays anyways because of the team. When I worked late on Friday nights and got up at 5am a couple of Saturdays to practice in a local 5K...I thought, hey this will get double time and miles for the team. So...even thought I have only met a couple of you in person, I feel like you have been right there with me all the way and thank you for that.

Did a 35 minute run and 3200 yard swim this morning, and 40 minutes on the trainer is on tap for later. :faint:

I'd love to nap, but i have to shower, shave and sell!

Tomorrow is a rest day, and I am leaving on saturday for some high altitude cross training (skiing in utah!)

As far as keeping up spreadsheets, why don't we create a goofs google based spreadsheet for each member, and have each person enter their totals on it? That would take some of the load off the captain (LISA, LISA, LISA!!!!)

have a great day goofs!

Mike

Evidently I have:

1) A POSSIBLE medial meniscal tear...the reason it's possible is that since I have already had this meniscus torn and repaired, that it will always show up as a tear.

I went to the orthopedic surgeon today regarding my knee. He wants to do an MRI to see if I have a lateral meniscus tear. I also have some swelling on the knee but it is in the front vs. behind. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it is just tendonitis.

Darn these knee problems!!!!

Quick drive-by: I am in for the team this year. I love having this group to talk to and get to know!! If I wasn't getting married in 7 months, and swamped with wedding stuff, I would be the captain, but I honestly just don't have the time to barely keep up with the posts, let alone keep track.

I kind of like the idea of each having our own spreadsheet then maybe one person could transfer them or something.

Susie-Hope your knee is feeling better soon!

Hi goofs!

Will ya keep me for one more year?

Not that I will be adding to the team totals for a while. My right foot is still funky - possible stress fractures. I am going to the doctor next Thursday. (I am waiting for an appointment with the true guru of runners foot problems.)

Although you guys are scaring me with all these scary sounding knee problems! Mike & Susie & Joanne you have to get better soon or we will have to change the team name to goofy knees.

Lisa - you were great as Captain but I can understand not wanting to do it two years in a row. I like Mikes idea. Or we could keep a running total on the thread so that all the captain has to do is input the final total?

Cecilia

Well........I guess I will stay with the Super Goofs team if you'll have me? I was really thinking that I wouldn't do it again, but you all seem to be in and I love this team. If I would have to switch teams, I would probably bow out. So, in simple terms, if the Super Goofs want me, I am in!

Beth

6:45 for each of three 0.5-mile segments

Gosh, I just wanted to do an iPhone drive-by, but it looks like we're doing a team poll. I'm in and a Super Goof all the way! I'm up for entering my own totals--great idea, Mike. Thanks, Lisa, for manning the helm all this time!

Hope everyone is on the mend soon from their knee and leg/foot problems.

30 mins bike tonight/5.83 miles

Have a great Friday everyone!!!

Did I miss anyone??? Did you all notice the new addition????

Welcome lenshanem (Shan) to our happy group of misfits! :grouphug: She was on another team and we have now adopted her onto ours. :crowded: Squeeze in anywhere Shan.....

I think the plan for the game now is that we have a master thread for monthly totals so, maybe we could all keep track of our own, post them daily if you wish or just check in with your progress, and then at the end of the month, post a total for me to add to the monthly thread. Would that work for everyone?? :confused3 It will take a lot of work out of my hands that way with only having to keep track on a monthly basis instead of daily.

As for me, I was going to blow off today's workout and go snowmobiling but the exercise Gods were watching and made it so no one could pick up DS7 after school....so I am going to the gym with DD14 and her friend as per our plan prior to my better offer. So I will be staying on track. I am now officially down 5.5 pounds since the first of the year and VERY happy about that. I guess all this hard work is paying off and I should stick with it.

Also, I will continue to captain the Goof ship per your requests. Thank you for all the love and support that you all have sent to me. I really do appreciate it. I think if we work together to streamline this game process, it will work better for all of us. Thanks for keeping me....:grouphug:

Thanks Captain Lisa!

I went to spin class yesterday- different instructor. It was a intense interval class and I ended up drenched in sweat. Lasted 60 minutes and I had a blast!

Happy Friday, Goofs! Sorry I have been MIA this week-crazy time at work. I am hosting a colleague from India who has never been anywhere cold before. And of course, we are having our coldest winter in years!

I am still on the team--and welcome to Shan and everyone else new for 2009! This weekend I'll have to catch up on the thread.

I have been at the gym this week working on my winter training, which is now eared towards running a faster 5k using the FIRST program. Was going to do the 10k program, but it's more miles than I think I can handle. I don't want to risk more ITB issues. Plus, since I plan to do a tri this summer, its hould help with that. Here's my workouts for the week:

Mon 1-19 45 minutes XC skiing
Tues 1-20 50 minutes--4 miles, stretching
Thurs 1-22 45 minutes--4.1 miles, stretching
Fri 1-23 50 minutes--8 miles on bike, weights

Catch up later!

Maura

Thank you so much Lisa! :goodvibes

Hi Super Goofs! :wave2:

I've been pretty unmotivated since I got back from the half. I've only run three times since - each three milers. Today I'm gonna try to run six. I don't have an excuse today - it is warming up finally.

Oh, and congrats Lisa on the weight loss! I'm trying to lose five more pounds, but I've been stuck for about a week! :crazy2:

Have a nice weekend everyone!

Shan, yet to be determined what the start date is. They are still working the bugs out. I think Dave said Monday he would post some information. We are still posting our miles and workouts so feel free to do so. Vent, post, rant, celebrate, whatever you feel at the moment!!! ::yes::
