I've heard various things on children and this attraction. For those of you who've been to it....how do you think boys 7 & almost 6 would be in this? They don't scare easily and have seen both Pirate movies and did fine in Stitch's Great Escape. So I'm wondering if I should let them go this year? They have never seen the movie though...should I rent it for them?

I think your kids are old enough that they will enjoy it (unless they have any kind of bug phobia). My 6 year old loved it, was not scared at all. However, my 4 year old screamed from beginning to end. To this day, I am not sure why. I think he will like it this year though (he is now 5).

I think it would be a good idea to rent the movie for them first. That way, they will know who everyone is and will know what they are doing during the show. The show is based on the movie. I think they will really enjoy it though. They should be old enough. :thumbsup2

I think since they did fine in Stitch they will be ok, renting the movie for them will be a good way for them to get to know the characters so they will understand more of what is going on in the show..

We saw it last week with our DDs 5 & 3, they really enjoyed it. There are a couple of slightly scary moments but I think they'll be okay.

Also, not to be a total spoiler, but you might give them a heads-up that anything that "touches them", is just fake and special effects.

That part freaked out my 4 year old. Other than that, I'd say your boys will love it.

We went several times last year. DD6 loved it. She especially loved the stink bug.

There were, however, kids who were terrified. Basically, the question is, how are your children with bugs? If they have no insect fears, it won't bother them at all.

Not true in our case. Our kids love bugs, love A Bug's Life (chewed me out because we missed getting Flik's autograph), and hated It's Tough To Be A Bug. Real bugs aren't fifteen feet tall and don't control the theatre you're in!

Warning: spoilers below.

1) It's loud. Very loud.
2) At one point, the theatre fills with "Bug Spray." You can't see a thing and you aren't sure you can breathe.
3) It's loud.
4) You are plunged into darkness and surrounded by hornet sounds. Apparently there is some effect to make you feel like you're being stung, but I was busy comforting a screaming 6-year-old and didn't notice.
5) Did I mention it's loud? :teeth:

I find this attraction impressive - Hopper is one of the best animatronics anywhere - but I never did get what was entertaining about it. Other than the stink bug, of course. :rotfl:

My children also love bugs and Bug's Life Movie. DS7 Loves, loves, loves It's Tough to be a Bug. He loved it when he was 6, too. DS 3 doesn't care for the dark and the noise. DS5 - my daredevil, try anything kid - ran screaming from the theatre, terrified. He got tangled in the curtains trying to find the exit while we chased him down (believe me, this is no exageration).
So, if you're unsure, try to move across the theatre for easy access to the exit doors. I've learned to be prepared :yay:

It seems to me that most boys that age like bugs. In any case, I doubt that the show will scare them one bit. It's a lot of fun, the line is interesting too.

Enjoy.

A lot of young boys love this show - especially the special effects. Good idea to rent the movie first so they know the characters. Do warn them that it might get loud occasionally, the stink bug sprays a stinky green cloud but it's harmless and the smell fades quickly (tell 'em to hold their nose when it first starts spraying), and, as other posters have mentioned, tell them it's Disney magic and none of the bugs are real and it's all in good fun.
And, go as far as you can across the aisle to be near the exit doors, just in case. :p
It really is a funny show, so there's lots of screaming, then laughing. :teeth:

I swear that I have been to that show at least a dozen times and never have I seen or heard a kid crying or screaming with the exception of one that looked about two years old. (a little too young)

All I ever needed to do with my kids when they were small was to say to them, "Remember it's all make believe, it's not real, it's just for fun". That always had the desired effect and they just enjoyed the shows.

:thumbsup2

If they were OK with the second PotC movie, which was very violent, loaded with gratuitious death, then ITTBAB will be too tame for them... :rotfl:

This attraction is quite an interesting experience. During the "quieter" parts of the show you can usually hear a chorus of screams/cries.
