Long post!
Have you ever had something come into your life and touch it so deeply that when you have to let it go it just about breaks your heart? Well this is what happened to us. Let me start out by saying my DH and I are foster parents who have 2 of the most wonderful children we are in the process of adopting. Back this past April we had gotten a call to foster a little 4 month old baby boy. We said sure and instantly fell head over heals in love with "Bubba". Now imagine if you can a very chunky AA baby that has the most adorable mohawk! And never stops smiling and laughing. He was born drug exposed but had not really shown any signs from it. We have him for 2 months and DD and DS basically have decieded he is their little brother and should be adopted like they were too!!
Well then the judge in all of his stupidity decieded to let Bubba go back with his mom even though family services is totally against it. Now for the kicker he is going to live with her while she is in long term rehab!!
We all say our goodbyes to Bubba and everyone is heartbroken (esp DD and DS). Well my mom keeps telling me she keeps having this dream that Bubba is standing on the front porch in his little baseball outfit we sent him home in with his binky and bottle ringing the door bell!! I laugh it off and say I wish. Well in the meantime I leave up his porta crib in the living room and keep his cereal and formula on the counter. (I either need to clean up more or get a grip on him leaving
) Well fast forward 2 and 1/2 months later porta crib still in the living room with all of his things and I get a phone call from our worker asking me if Bubba had been a baby we had fostered. I immediatly start crying and tell the worker yes and bring my Bubba back immediatly!! I knew that he had to be asking only for one reason and that was he had come back into care. My DD5 is getting ready to go to kindergarten and hears me and runs up to me and says "Bubba is coming home isn't he?" I shake my head yes and she begins to bounce off the walls she is so happy!
The worker said his mom had tested positive for Cocaine so he was coming back to us if we wanted him? Like there was any question of where he was going??
So a couple of hours pass and my DD and DS's worker calls me to tell me guess who she was sitting right then and there holding? BUBBA!! I started to cry again and Bubba's worker got on the phone and told me she was bringing him home to us in about a half an hour!
Well Bubba arrives and he has LOST weight and only grown about a half an inch in 2 and a half months!!
At first he just looked at the crazy people holding him and hugging him like who in the world are you people? Then after changing him and putting on one of his old onesy's and feeding him a bottle it looked like a little light bulb went off in that perfect little mohawked head and he wouldn't take his eyes off of me or DD (she got to stay home today since it was a special occasion and I am sure her teacher would have gone nuts if she was there) He also kept snuggling his little head into my chest and also DH all afternnon and evening if we would put him down on the floor even for a couple of mins he would reach his little arms out to us to hold him!!
When we had Bubba the first time we were working with an attachment therapist for DD and Ds and she commented then of how attached he was to us and he had only been with us about a month then! Well looks like the attachment is still there and all I can say is WELCOME HOME BUBBA!!
