It's a bittersweet decision, but I'll put my selfishness aside

Alright...So first off, thank you to everyone who answers all of my silly questions! LOL...

Second of all...My plan to go to Disney this year while the kids are still free is pretty much out the window. If my husband gets the hometown recruiting and 10 days leave in between basic and our first duty station we could have gone for like two days.

BUT...I have realized that I have to put MY dreams for my CHLIDREN'S first trip to the World aside and go another time.

So...with that said I have decided that I CAN infact wait until the twins are like 4 and that Disney World WILL still be there and that THEY will enjoy it even more than when they were 2.

Plus...I have to admit that as much as I WOULD LOVE to go soon, the trip would be rushed, and frankly, pardon my french...Half A*#ed.

So...I can wait and do it right. They way I wanted it to be. A few more days, a better hotel, character breakfasts...the whole deal.

So for now I will continue to lurk and read reviews and trip reports so that our first family trip to the World will be PERFECT!!!

I am not doing so well with my husbands decision that my children's first trip will be put off until the end of next year. I'm glad that one of us is being mature about not getting to go. I want to have a screamng crying big baby temper tantrum. My moms advice was to put some fiber glass in his laundry:rolleyes1 I'm still plotting.
When you finally get there, you will have the best time ever:goodvibes

Good for you on keeping a great attitude! FWIW, It's much better to have a longer time and IMHO slightly older kids to enjoy Disney even more. I think 4-5 is perfect. Young enough to really enjoy, remember and believe in the magic and old enough to be responsible for their own movement (and bodily functions) that will help you have a more enjoyable trip. Nothing says that you can't be planning now.

I think if you're doing a possibly once (or twice!) in a lifetime trip, it's so much better between 4 and 6. As cute as they are when they're younger, those are the real 'magic' years.

For what it's worth I don't think you'll regret waiting. My kids are 13, 9 and 6 and going for the first time in a few weeks. Reasons we waited:

We wanted to be able to afford it comfortably and not have to do the super duper stripped down budget trip. Instead of moderate or value or off-site we're staying YC and doing the DDP instead of eating off paperplates in our room for every meal. We are going a little sooner and cutting a big corner by driving instead of flying - but DH hates to fly and we drive long distance a lot anyway so it's not a huge sacrifice.

I wanted my kids to remember this trip. Now not only will they remember it clearly but they are asking to do certain things and are taking part in the planning.

This trip is about them and what they want to do. DS#2 is measuring himself diligently because he really wants to be 52" so he can ride Tomorrowland Speedway by himself. DS#1 is a foodie and picked all our ADRs plus he's eagerly anticipating SPlMtn, EE and RNRC. DS#3 is excited about Dumbo.

Plus because we waited DS#3 will be able to ride all but 3 or 4 of the rides so we'll be getting our money's worth out of their tickets.

Think of all the extra ways your trip will be more exciting if you wait and you will be happy you decided to wait.:thumbsup2

I agree completely...I'll hang my head low wait. LOL...IT'S SO HARD!!!:scared:

I have to agree with 3boymthr. Our kids will be 6 & 8 in June when we take them for their first trip.

Our reasons for us (me) to (not so patiently) wait;
We wanted them to anticipate, enjoy and remember their first trip. My first was when I was 9 and I still remember it well! Which is why it has been so hard for me to wait. Finances. Also DH is not a flier, so we felt it wasn't until now that they could handle three days in the car.

Which is not to say that it didn't drive me crazy when friends, neighbors and their school friends have all gone over the past few years. I swear to hear them tell it they are the last kids in their school to get to go.

Our neighbors took their kids when they were two and four and the two year old (now 6) doesn't remember much of it. And oooooh, did I hate hearing about it when their plans were happening, but I smiled happily

Have fun with the planning in the meantime, and just think how well organized you'll be!
