I figure Viki is busy with the boys, Mike is at work. So where is everyone else?

I'm at work until 5pm tonight, and bored. Please, help entertain me with converstation!! :lmao:

No work for me till Wednesday.

We're watching a movie on Logo, waiting for the news come on so we can watch them sensationalize the Downtown Disney pipe bomb story, and trying to figure out what's for dinner.

Also watching the radar, looks like the storms are moving in!

OMG the news just came on, what is Martha Sugalski thinking? That hair isn't teased.......it's annoyed!:scared1:

Angry hair is sooo 1990.

What are you watching on Logo? I have to admit I'm addicted to that channel. "The US of Ant" cracks me up.

I'm at work and haven't even had lunch yet...
Slow day so I'm trying to sneek in both reading for class and the DisBoards.
Just got a call that a friends young daughter (17) just had a friend commit suicide:scared1: :scared1: . They're coming over tonight so she can have a safe haven to talk about it.
How can I comfort her when I don't even understand myself????

That's horrible Rosie!! I've been through the suicides of close ones, and it's rough. There tends to be a lot of blame, but it's one of those things you just have to come to terms with.

Sometimes there isn't anything to say. Just being there is what a friend might need. Allowing them to feel anything they need to feel is a very friendly thing to do. We will keep you and your friend's family in our thoughts.

On the Logo topic, last night, I watched "Gay In America" or some such name about when it became legal to marry in Massachusetts. It was so touching my eyes got watery at one point. There is so much to be hopeful about in the world today despite all of the things that could drag people down.
After seeing “Sicko” Michael Moores’ EXCELLENT film (I laughed, I cried) I even have hope for the healthcare system in this country to one day get fixed.
It is amazing what passes as “news” these days with all the important things that are happening in the world. When did items from the National Enquirer move into mainstream news broadcasts? Where did the news editors go to school?
Oh yeah, I'm at work printing out the newsletter.

Thank you both for your support. I really appreciate it. Aaron, like you said "listening" and allowing to feel whatever it is she's feeling is a good start. I'm hoping a little chocolate cake won't hurt. I'll fill you guys in tomorrow with how it goes.

Thanks again

Chocolate cake is always a help, but you might want to make 2. Chocolate is an anti-depressant, and you'll probably need a lot.

I've got fresh raspberry pie too...between them I should be alright. This house (if you can't tell) if full of people who love to cook. Sometimes I wake up to pee, it's 2 am and I smell cookies baking!!! It keeps us happy!

OMG. RosieP -- How awful! That poor child -- it can be so hard for adolescents sometimes. Their feelings can be so strong and overwhelming in the moment that they sometimes don't realize that as bad as things are, they can turn around and be OK again.
And that poor mom, too...I don't know how somebody moves on from something like that.

Rosie,

Please keep us posted. Death is hard enough, but suicide on top of that sometimes is just so hard to understand. I'm glad you are providing an ear and some great snacks for your friend. You are special! :thumbsup2

Rosie - I'm so sorry. Sometimes just being available is the best thing you can do. She probably needs a place to get away from everything and you're offering that. Listen to her talk and offer her some cake - that might be the best thing right now.

Hey Everyone,

Our friends have just left. Things went really well. Rachael is 17 and she hung around with my daughter and I in the kitchen while dinner cooked. We asked her to tell us about her friend and just let her lead things. Her friend, a young man, had been drinking heavily and killed himself with a gun. She is still in shock and can't believe it has happened to someone she knew. We talked about him and the situation for about twenty minutes or so and then the conversation veered towards other things. I even manage to talk about Disney...because the sad truth is..these teens are really still children.

The memorial service is on Sunday, i asked her if she wanted us to go along with her (she said no) and I also told her if she wanted to come by afterwards we would most certainly be home (she said she just might do that).

Rachael was really little when her parents divorced and I've known her since she was an infant. She's a great kid but her crowd is a bit rough. When she comes here she loves to sidle up to me in the kitchen and watch me cook...

Thank you all for being here for me as much as I do sometimes I always wonder whether it's enough. I have been blessed with a great family unit and I always want to share that.

Thanks to each and every one of you who wrote today. I think I'm ready for bed now.

You are a true friend! May God bless in the next few days!

Rosie, I'm sorry I missed all of this yesterday ... I am so very sorry and thank you for your compassion. I'm sure you made a huge difference in that young woman's life. :grouphug:
