Hi. Big time lurker, first time poster. We've been to wdw yearly forever and the whole family loves it. But for the first time we're trying out dl and southern California as a summer trip to coincide with my husbands trip for work. We will be a party of 7. 3 kids aged 8, 6 and 2 and my inlaws. We are planning on staying at hojos for at least part of the time and being in southern cal from either fri 8/17 or sat 8/18 to fri 8/31 or sat 9/1. I just realized dl will be open to ap holders those weeks and with carsland opening it may be a mess. We Did u get my text want to go to San Diego, see Disney, and don't know what else we should be doing (universal? Beaches? Vegging, water parks, parks, museums, sea world, la brea tar pits). There will be like 6 days that my husband will be busy so would prefer some things that are great but maybe lower key or maybe I'll take kids with inlaws to dl/dca without him. How bad will the crowds be - will the parks close to incoming people? Does that ever happen? Should we get 6 day park hoppers? Citypass? See universal? Etc? Any recommendations would be soo appreciated.

I would say get a 3 day park hopper to disneyland and dca, 1 day at universal (you must go here), 1 day at the san diego zoo, and one day for the beach! Cars Land opens in june so it will have calmed down by august. However august is a busy month anyways with summer vacations. But I don't think it will be anything too outrageous! I have been to WDW and DL more times then I can count! Enjoy your vacation :)

I would surely go at the later dates to avoid the AP holders in DL as much as possible finishing with DLR.

You may want to look into Citypass, for it's 3 day DL hopper, 1 days US, 1 day SW tickets. Also Legoland would be good for the kids, but not adults, that may be an option when DH is working. Legoland has a small water park.

I would try to start in SD, if this mean arriving on the Friday that would be ok. Do things in SD, there is plenty of great beaches. Sea World, the zoo, the Safari Park, Balboa Park, USS Midway, Legoland, and other small things.

Then move up to Hojo for Universal Studios, DLR and other things you would like to do. A large waterpark, Soak city is next to Knott's Berry Farm.
