Hello UK!

We are renting a Villa in Lucca in Sept and wish to rent a Mini Van. Want to collect in Venice..and drop in Rome. I know all the North American rental companies--but am wondering if I might fare better with an Italian one? Have messed with the Maggiore site without much luck!
Any tips for me?

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay--welll then, I guess nobody has rented wheels in Italy!;)

Has anyone taken a train? Say from Switzerland or Germany to Italy?
I am seeing Eurorail? Is that it? Anyone know?

We are flying into either of the above places, NOT renting a car there as to drop in Italy is $$$$$, so we will spend a day or 2 then take the train to Venice. Spend a few days there THEN rent the car to get to a Villa we have booked in Tuscany. Trying to do the logisitics and very used to how it is here, not there...

THANK YOU!

Rented in Italy (Ancona airport) a couple of years ago :thumbsup2

Think I did a search on 'Kelkoo' and booked through auto-europe.co.uk :)

I bought the insurance4carhire annual, European, excess cover and had no problems getting my claim re-funded when someone, accidentally, damaged the side of the car :scared1:

Hi Minnie56!

Can't help you with the query regarding the train. Could you contact the concierge at the hotel in Switzerland for advice? I did get The Eurorail link from the Veneto website - am assuming this is what you were looking at?

Car hire - I've used holidayautos.co.uk for our trip this year. I'm not sure how this would worl for you though as we put a UK address in.

Have found this for you though, Veneto website
it's a car hire in partnership with auto-europe as mentioned by Alison but looks as if it's aimed at US visitors as prices are in $$.

Have had a look at the Maggiore site for you too. You can arrange to collect the car from the train station in Venezia Mestre. Assuming you are staying in Venice itself - Mestre is a short, cheap, train ride away. You can then drop the car off in Rome at quite a few locations including the airports and Termini trainstation. Would recommend one of these places as they'll be much easier to find than just a random office address....the joys of Italian road signs and trying to find your way around Rome ;) It does seem, however, that they don't have vans at the Venice location as standard. You may find it best to call them? To make a booking from abroad +39 06 22 45 60 60

Let me know if I can help with translation. Will do my best.

THANK YOU for the great info--I will look at it all and see what I can make out. We have no hotels booked yet, only the Villa, so cannot ask them for any assistance at this point..that's next!:thumbsup2
