a party of 4..2 adults, 2 children age 8.. boys who like to eat a lot, not off kid's menu..
it certainly would not make sense now to "make them adults" so they can order off adult menus while we are on the DxDP, right? They will get to order whatever they want anyway, just like an adult paying kids prices for DxDP, right??

Unless you are made of money, no. The kids menu at most table service restaurants are really great, plus they can choose whatever they want to eat from buffets. It would be cheaper to pay to upgrade your kids the couple of times that they might want to order an adult meal.

Based on the unofficial information that has been released, you are correct. On the deluxe plan they can order off the regular adult menu even if they are on the kids dining plan.

I thought that only applied to counter service meals.

The information released has indicated that it only applies to counter service on the regular dining plan, but on the deluxe plan all credits are combined regardless of whether they are child or adult credits for both counter service or table service.

It is interesting that the only plan left with true child credits is the regular DDP. Wonder why?

Because some counter service restaurants don't have kids menus. Counter service credits can't differentiate or they wouldn't work at some restaurants. Deluxe credits are "meal" credits, which can be used at either table service or counter service restaurants, so they conform to the same standard.

I get the "how." It's more the "why" I'm wondering about. If DxDDP can be pooled, then so can regular DDP. Perhaps it is an incentive for more people to buy the Deluxe plan. I mean, think about it. You see the brochure or the guidelines online and notice that only the regular DDP states that kid's MUST order from the kid's menu at a TS. If I had an 8 or 9 year old that could eat, I would definitely take a look and think about upgrading. Or, I would just go with the QSDP where my child could get an adult meal at the child's price. (I still think they're going to change the price on this one.)

Re read my post. That is the "why." Counter service credits are pooled. Deluxe credits are essentially counter service credits.

That's interesting and makes perfect sense. It seems that Disney is dropping the requirement that the number of adult CS meals ordered on a DDP not exceed the number of adults listed on the plan via the MB. We know the DxDDP meal credits are pooled. The question remains: will the wait staff insist that a child use credits on a child's meal?

Does your family like good buffets? That would solve this issue. There are good to very good buffets for breakfast/lunch at WDW: Boma, Cape May, Biergarten, Trails End, Crystal Palace, 1900 Park Fare & Ohana (all you can eat). The child's menu at Teppan Edo looks half decent as well. However, generally thought to be a smaller portion of food provided for all guests there. Good luck!
