It worked for us! Fanny packs for kids....

I read this tip somewhere on these boards before our trip, and I tell you ... it was one of the best decisions we made on our own trip. We got a fanny pack for each of our children. Each morning before we went into each park we filled snack-sized baggies with pretzels, goldfish, fig newtons, peanuts (their favorite), raisins. They also had sunglasses in there, and my daughter had a disposable camera.

All day they just munched away happily and we weren't nagged to buy snacks. When we did get snacks a few times, they were spontaneous and a true treat ... not because everyone was starving.

Each afternoon we took a break back at the timeshare for a nap, and the kids didn't even eat lunch because of their full tummies (of basically nutritious snacks). An early dinner reservation (4:30pm) and we were fine and two meals a day.

I'm hoping to do this as well, I can probably get my two nine year olds to do it, but not my 15 year old....we'll see if he gets hungry, plus I think he'll be carrying around his "new" digital camera (its his b-day next week and that's what we are getting him!).

Sounds like a great idea. I'll have to try it out on our next trip. I'm like the last poster, my DD9 and DS6 would wear them proudly. My DD14 would not be caught with a fanny pack on. Even if that meant she would go without snacks all day. :rotfl:

Isn't it great!

I also add a small water bottle with a sport top for each my my dd's. They either use the water bottle strap (sold at WDW) or clip it to the fanny pack. I find if they have water bottle with them they drink more water, important in the FL sun.

I had a fanny pack with two water bottles on the sides. I filled them halfway and froze them overnight and filled them up each morning. We all shared through the day.

My girls (13 and 15) wouldn't wear a fanny pack, but they do carry a small mickey backpack stuffed with snacks at the parks with no problem!

I want to buy my DD8 a fanny pack to wear. Are these fairly easy to find. I haven't started looking yet, but I'm thinking Walmart or Target.

At 8 you can probably use a regular or adult size fanny pack, nice because the kiddie ones are harder to find. Wallmart and Target have some nice ones right now. Check the purse section, the backpack section and the camping or coleman section. If you find one you like and its to big a knot in the belt will do the trick!

I bought my dd a nice purple one from Walmart yesterday. It was tagged $4.74 but rung up for $2.00! They had pink also.

I was able to get mine and DS10 and DD7 one at Walmart but they did not adjust enough for DS8.I found one that worked for him at Target but it was twice the price. My DD7 did end up buying a Tinkerbell one at WDW that she loves. It was about $15.

They won't share water bottles with anyone else but me! They don't want to get each other's germs!!!! (Now that I think about it, my husband won't share HIS water bottle with the kids!!! He doesn't want their germs!!)

I guess I know where the kids learned that one.... :rolleyes2

Sounds great... but I'm SO confused! I was sure there was a rule about bringing your own food into the parks... Was this changed? :confused3

I usually pack a soft side cooler and put it in the stroller. I have never had a problem with security. I have also seen families bring in picnics and such. I still buy ice creams, popcorn, etc. I don't think they enforce the no foods brought into the park rule.

I found a great fanny pack at LL Bean. It comes with a water bottle attached that has a cover. I am only sorry that I did not buy 2. :rotfl2: It was on clearance.
