It was a crazy twist of fate how it happened. She had been neglected, was 15 lbs underweight, had an eye infection and worms, and deemed un-adoptable by the humane society. She was one day away from being put down. As a favor to my best friend, who volunteers for the Basset Rescue of GA, I was asked to take her to a new foster home in Atlanta. But after just 4 hours together, my fiance and I decided we couldn't give her up.

She sits by my feet now, sleeping and dreaming of better days to come. I want to encourage everyone to adopt a doggie from the pound or get a rescue dog. Many people are apprehensive because they assume rescue dogs are untrainable, sick, aggressive or have other negative behavior issues. But thats not always the case, and even the challenging ones can turn around.

By the grace of God, our once-neglected doggie found her way to us heartworm-free, housetrained and eager to please. We feel lucky to have her.

Oh, and we named her Grace. ;)

Congratulations! PiXiE dUsT for you! i am glad you had faith in Grace b/c there is no telling where she would be now if you hadn't taken her. :Pinkbounc

Congrats! My sister recently adopted a dog who had been returned to the shelter twice for being a "problem dog." When she got him he was skinny, had chronic diahrrea, was cross-eyed and his hindquarters were yellow from sitting in urine. No one wanted this mutt. A few months later he has shed most of his old coat and it came in softer and clean white, an eye infecton was the cause of the cross eyed look, the diahrrea is gone with a regular diet and a strong course of antibiotics, and even though he still tends to get pretty hyper and needs constant reminding of how to behave, he has come a LONG way from the untrained dog she adopted 6 months ago. Amazing what some patience and reasonable expections along with good quality food, exercise and a good vet can do.

Awww, how adorable! So glad you have this wonderful furbaby.
Is that your photo? I love your hair!

It's so true. I had a Lab once and learned quick they need lots of attention..more than I could give. From that experience I figured out what would work for our lifestyle and Grace fits in perfectly! Props to your sister for taking in a problem dog and turning him around!!

I think that is the sweetest thing!! She is adorable and now she is loved!!

I have no doubt she will give you all the love, devotion and loyalty you give her back ten-fold.

Congratulations to all of you for finding each other.:D

You have found your way into each others hearts.:D

I too have a dog that nobody wanted. She was dumped outside of a store all day. I took her to the humane society and they kept her for 2 weeks to be sure that no owner came forward and after the time period, I took her in. I kept waiting to see what her 'baggage' was and there is none. It is now 7 years later and she is approx 10 and a delight. She seems forever grateful and thrilled at the simplest things still such as her walk every evening.

I am blessed to have been at that store that day as are you to have been given the task of dleivering Grace to a new waiting place. Instead, she found your kind heart and you have found a lifetime of gratitude and loyalty.

What a sweet story! How lucky Grace was to find you... and you were to find her. :)

I love a story with a happy ending!

Thats great! Here's to many happy days together.

My sister adopted a greyhound and they love him to pieces.;)

What a great story! Congratulations to you! I'm sure she will be forever grateful that you saved her!

Congrats on your new family member.

There is nothing like the unquestioning love that we as pet owners receive from our four footed furries.

Bless you for helping this baby.

::yes::

What a fantastic story! How lucky you are to have found her and how lucky of Grace to have found a fantastic home!

My DH & I adopted our doggie, a 3 year old Beagle from a humane society that is out in the country. She was extremely underweight and we were told she had been found wandering on a country road. She's the sweetest dog ever and we love her to pieces.

Do you love the bark yet? Our came into our lives last summer.

Sad story actually. My husbands grandpa's basset hound had puppies. Almost every nite we went over there during May to see the puppies. He finally let us take one home in mid-June. We spent a lot of time with his grandpa when we visited the puppies. Guess what, grandpa passed away in July, he was 88 years old and fit as can be. I think the puppies brought all his children and grandchildren and great grandchildren to his house who otherwise might not have visited that often before his death.

Congrats! We have 2 shelter dogs - Sheba, a Husky/Shepherd mix who we adopted about 6 years ago, and Charlie, a black Lab/Rottie mix we just adopted this past Christmas. They are so precious to us; it almost seems like they give extra love because they're so happy to have been rescued!

(Oh, and they actually listen better than our human children do, too!):teeth:
