Waaaaaa! :( I am in PAIN!!!!! :(

DH convinced me to go to a local after hours clinic to see if I could get a strep test and I guess I am glad that he made me go. I have all the classic symptoms and according to the dr. my throat looked terrible and had pus in it! Ewwww! :( The rapid test was actually negative but she felt that it was more than likely a false negative and gave me some antibiotics. Hopefully they will start to clear this up and I will start feeling better soon. Any ideas about how long this takes to clear it up?

DH has the same symptoms so he is thinking about going to the doctor tomorrow. Thankfully DS is not showing any signs but just my luck he will get sick over the weekend.

I hope you feel better soon........strep is no fun!
Take care.......

I had strep for the first time in my life (or the first time I can ever remember having it) last year, and it knocked me flat on my back for a week. I was one sick pup.

I do hope you have a lesser time with it, Becka. Try and drink as MUCH fluids as you can and sleep, sleep, sleep! Can the baby go to daycare while you rest? Because my kids are older and I didn't have the strength to take care of them. Hopefully you can get people to help you with Nathan.

Take care.

I know it sounds wierd, but I am always glad when it is strep as antibiotics clear it up quick! Viruses can linger a long time and you can't do anything about them. And strep is not even a pathogen until a child is about 2 years old. Not sure how old your DS is, but if it is strep he may be safe because of his age. Hope the antibiotics do the trick for you and DH!:D

Ugh, Becka, I really suspected it WAS strep based on your symptoms! :(

The antibiotics should kick in pretty fast and within 48 hours you are no longer contagious.

I hope you start feeling better soon, and as snoopy said, REST as much as you can!

Sorry you are feeling bad. I went through this just a couple of weeks back and it really knocked me hard. Even on the antibiotics, it took a good 4-5 days before I actually felt good. I don't know how my kids have survived with strep and not felt really miserable.

I've also heard that it doesn't effect kids under 2. Hopefully Nathan will be fine.

Get as much rest as you can and I hope you feel better soon.

Strep is nasty stuff. Both of my kids had it last year. My dd had a lot of the classic symptoms (sore throat, eyes hurting, etc.). My ds didn't have any symptoms at all (he wasn't even complaining of a sore throat). The dr went ahead and did a strep test on him since his sister's was so positive, she wanted to make sure he was ok. I'm glad she ran the test, he had strep too. I opted for them to have the penicillian shot so it could get in their system faster. I think my dd felt a lot better by the 3rd day or so.

I hope you get to feeling better soon, Becka and I hope your dh does too. I also hope little Nathan doesn't get it.:)

Becka-I had strep on my first day of vacation. Day 2 I was at the local ER getting a prescrip. I felt really awful for about a day and a half after I got the meds. Drink lots of fluids. I was eating lots of popsicles.

I seem to recall my doc saying that babies can't get strep?! My boys all had it last winter and he said I didn't have to worry about dd getting it. Can't remember why?!

Hope you are feeling better soon.

Oh one more thing--throw out your toothbrush and get a new one or you'll get it all over again. :)

So does my DD Becka w/ a scorching fever! Hang in there. Get better soon!

Just got over a long bout of it myself....I've heard so many people having strep lately!

I hope that you are on the mend soon Becka!

Take care of yourself!

My poor 13 year old just came down with viral pneumonia and we haven't a clue where he got it!!! You just never know !

Thanks everyone!

Unfortunately I don't really feel much better this morning. I am really ready to feel better soon....hopefully this stuff will kick in gear by this afternoon.

This past spring, I thought that my 16 year old (at the time) had strep. Antibiotics did nothing.....had to take her to the hospital with Mono.

Be careful, if you don't feel better in several days, go back to see the doctor again.

Since your rapid test was negative it could be a "Strep like" virus :( . My kids have had these too and they seem and look just like strep. If it is strep, your DH needs to be treated ASAP or complications can occur. If his test is negative, you will know it may be a virus and your DS can get that! :( Did they send off a culture for an overnight test? Hope you feel better soon.
