while I was waiting to pick DD11 up from school. She came out holding her down coat, dressed only in a t-shirt. It was 23 degrees this morning and 30 degrees at 3 pm when I picked her up.

I was wearing a winter coat and I was cold, especially when the wind gusted. :confused3

Yep.. That's about the age where the hats and gloves go bye-bye too..
Brrrrrrrrrr...

:santa:

My kids do the same thing...walk out of school or off the bus holding their stuff instead of wearing it:eek: I have been seeing adults in the grocery store wearing shorts...wth its freezing literally!

I know I'm old now because I want to yell at all the teenage girls (mine included) who are wearing flip flops in this weather!

I guess I'm old too. I wanted to yell at those boys' parents for letting them out of the house half dressed. That is, until I saw my DD and noticed that apparently I am one of those parents. ;)

Well one of them could have been my DS. He's in middle school so no more recess. He's only outside waiting after school in carpool. It's not a battle I'm willing to fight.

Now if he goes to an outdoor event and it's cold I do make him wear pants. (And he fights me tooth and nail!)

Yes, these were middle schoolers. DD11 is in 6th grade, which is middle school around here.

My son went to the Poconos to go hunting with his uncles & grandfather this weekend. He was ticked that I made him take his coat. WTH??? I know he won't need it when he actually goes hunting as his hunting gear (orange oversuit & coat) are at his GF's cabin but jeez. Tomorrow's high for where he'll be is only 30 frickin degrees with 10-15 mph wind!

Kids. :sad2:

My son left for school this morning in jeans a tee shirt and a sweat shirt. I said today would be the day to put that jacket on! Nope! He came home from school in his gym clothes.:confused3

I just shake my head.:sad2:

I just try and remember when I was in school and went to school each morning with wet hair.:rolleyes1

Middle school boy mom here- my DSs wear shorts all the time. Occasionally if it is really cold (below freezing), I tell them to put on pants. Many of the elementary and middle school boys wear shorts all year. I don't see it being any different than the girls in skirts.

Our kids never wear coats to school. Also, most of their classrooms are very warm (it is hard to keep building temps even) so going outside after they have been hot all day, even in 30 degree temps feels good to them.

Eh, let them live and learn.
I've given my parents a run for their money plenty of times on this issue!

My husband's 37, and when he had me check the weather for today and I told him the morning would be 25, he said "oh good, I can wear my shorts". I guess 17 makes him put on his jeans, but 25 he's good in his cargos.

No hat b/c his head is freakishly large, only one glove b/c he left it on the bus yesterday (turns out the driver had it, he got the same driver this morning, and he got it back, woo!). He does have a nice warm fleece jacket with a windbreaker he can put over it...

But the deep red windburn on his lower legs is making me cringe...

Some men are impervious to cold. I was one till I hit my mid 40s. Now I like warm & cozy just like DW:)

LOL, that is the way I feel around here EXCEPT the opposite. I lived my whole life in New England. I know what COLD is all about. But here in sunny Southern CA you see the natives in UGG's all summer long and by Sept they are all buttoned up in North Face Down ski jackets with scarfs and gloves. :lmao: I wish they could be transplanted for just a moment to the East coast to see just exactly what freezing temps are like. ::yes::
Dec 11, and I have my flipflops on!!! :cool1:

And OP, as far as the kiddos go, it is called being youthful, they are always warm!!! ::yes::

I was very annoyed with DS11 when I saw him a block away walking to school without his jacket. It was 13 degrees. A few hours later I got stuck outside longer than I thought and my feet were cold. Guess I can't get too judgmental when I wear sandals in that kind of weather. :rolleyes1

I just don't feel the cold unless I'm out in it for a long, long time. I don't even put a coat on unless it's under 20, and even then, it's more of a jacket than a winter coat.

I only went out in a fleece today. And it wasn't even my North Face one. Okay, I was wearing a scarf, but that stayed on all day over my t-shirt weight cardigan. And the flip-flops still haven't gone away. :lmao: I was trying to explain when I took a Consumer Motivation Class that up until I went back to school in Manhattan, I hadn't owned a winter coat in 10 years. The only other person in the class that got it was the fellow life-long suburbanite.

I get cold when it gets below 65, but I don't freeze until it gets to be about 15 below. I can't explain it either.

I noticed a ton of boys wearing shorts in my middle school today too....a bunch with no coats too and we are in the same weather...crazy kids!

The weather was like that here earlier this week. I think Wednesday was the first day the cold weather set in. I couldn't make my :cool2: cool DS14 even take a hoodie to school. So he wore khaki pants and a short sleeve polo.:sad2:

Well, the next day, he came downstairs ready to go. He was wearing a hoodie.

:lmao:

Sometimes you just have to let your kids be stupid.

:thumbsup2
