"All WDW trips must begin and end with MK." That is rule #1 in the unwritten family rude book at our household. So we dutifully and joyfully went to MK on this last full day of our vacation. This was a day I had to learn to just chill a little bit. You see, in my family I am the one who comes up with a plan and we all follow along. I get the three "must-dos" for everyone and then plan accordingly.
The kids really wanted to do the Stitch ride. Iasked them if they were sure they wouldn't rather just spend 20 minutes listening to nails on a chalkboard or subject themselves to Chinese water torture. (j/k) Anyhow, knowing that only one ride chamber was operating for the time being, we headed for Stitch first. No wait -right into the preshow. I went with an open mind, even thogh i hated the ride back in November. Guess what? It was kind of cute! I enjoyed the preshow. The ffects in the ride itslf were enjoyable. Not that I would ride Stitch every time I was in MK, but I now think it deserves its place in MK. We could debate the merits of the attraction and point out its shortcomings, but all in all I think its OK for what it is -a mid level attraction.
We then wen to Fantasyland and rode Teacups. It is a family tradition that the kids and I ride while DW watches. Kids love to spin real fast and see if they can make daddy woozy. Then we visited Ariel, rode IASW, HoP, Pirates, CBJ, and Splash Mountain. Regarding Splash Mountain, I now there has been much talk about it being dirty but I just never seem to notice it that way. It is a thrill for me to ride everytime. We took the train back around to Toontown and walked to Tommorowland. Rode CoP (it broke down and we had to experience one scene twice, but I still love this ride), Buzz, TTA, etc. After lunch we went back to the resort for a swim.
We got back to the park around 5pm. We just kind of wandered around enjoying whatever we wanted. It was nice to just chill and forget about getting this or that done. We rode HM twice, visited Tom Sawyer's Island, etc. About 30 minutes before time for Spectro we found a spot on Main Street just one row back from the curb. DW, who really does not like those mobs at closing time, took DS and headed back to the resort. DD and I stayed to watch Spectro -definitley on of my "must-sees" at MK. The parade was a beautiful and magical as ever. The music lifted my spirits. What a great thing to do as the last thing on a vacation.
The night ended as kind ofa downer thanks to some craaaazy bus service. We waited for a while in the Pop Century bus queue outside MK. I noticed that buses did not seem to be arriving. The line, as you might imagine given the size of PC, was getting enormous. Then three Pop Century buses arrive at once. A might cheer went up from the crowd. The drivers try to park the three buses into the one bus slot at the station. All three buses are loaded and ready to roll. No sooner ar the lights out than do we hear -BANG! Our bus had collided with another of the PC buses
and was wedged against it in such a way that enither bus could move. Finaly another bus was sent and we were loaded onto that one. It took 2 hours to get from MK to Pop Century via bus that night. Thanks a lot, Disney
.
Even the fiasco of leaving that night did not spoil the fun of the trip. We rose the next morning for a long but uneventful drive back home. As we dream about our next WDW vacation, my wife and I are resolved to do something we have never done before -GO WITHOUT THE KIDS.
If you have read all my reports, I hope you aren't bored to death. Thanks for reading!
