It’s crazy here!!!

Oh that's good to know. I have December 8-12 booked, a Thursday to Monday. I'm thinking about changing it to the 3 - 7, a Saturday to Wednesday. Prices are about the same for both times. This will definitely factor in to my decision. I haven't been in December for 8 years. It used to be a yearly trip for us but then I discovered Halloween.

Keep Dec 8-12. You'll get 3 nights of longer park hours. And crowds will be low.

I just got back. We were there Sat-Tues (Tues was a no-park day). Saturday was great, and we rode a ton of things in both parks with low to moderate waits, even though we didn't get into the park until around 10. Longest wait was Guardians at an hour. Sunday was fine in the morning--we rode several things in DL, including Rise with a relatively short wait even though we didn't rope drop, and then we spent about 2 hours at a dining reservation. Park hopped and got a lot done without too much waiting, but we used single rider and weren't too worried about getting in as many rides as possible. Monday, though, was packed. We did ok in the morning at DL, had a lunch res at Blue Bayou, and when we got out the crowds were getting pretty intense. We went over to DCA and rode a few things, looked around a bit, and had a 5 pm res for the Magic Key Terrace with friends. We didn't try to do rides because it was just too crowded, so we took our time on the terrace. Went back to the hotel (DLH) and hung out there for the rest of the afternoon. DTD was packed. We had a res at Trader Sam's at 9:45 so we ate a snack and had a drink on the terrace. We went back into DL and people were packed in waiting for the fireworks. We went into the gallery and were going to go into Mr. Lincoln but the firework show started so we stepped into a nice little nook right behind the ropes the use as a crosswalk. That was nice because I'm short and the rope left a walkway space in front of us so no head directly in front of me. Lots of people were heading out of the park but we made our way to Coke Corner, sat at a table and waited for Fantasmic to end. People then just came streaming out. When it slowed to a trickle, we went in. We headed over to Big Thunder Mt where there was a very short wait, and after we got off we hit Indy and Jungle Cruise, also with short waits. We did that until park closing.

If that is how it usually works, then hitting rides at the end of the night is a good option on busy days, at least on that side. I don't know how it was on the other side of the park.

Edited to add that we didn't have Genie+. Didn't need it Sat or Sun but Monday would have been a good day for it. We didn't bother since we'd already done the rides multiple times that we really wanted and we had 3 dining reservations.

Rapid antigen tests will be negative more quickly, and can be used as a proxy for determining infectiousness. PCR tests will continue to detect fragments of RNA beyond the time when a person is infectious, sometimes for several weeks.
I am aware. Most businesses use rapid antigen for return to work purposes. I was asking if this person was still testing positive on a rapid antigen 30 days later. That would indicate a reinfection more than anything else. Although my friend's husband was still testing positive on a home test at day 16, but he took paxlovid, so it may have been a rebound.

What about paxlovid makes you more likely to have a rebound case? My dh took it a few weeks ago. Started paxlovid right after the positive test. Is there a chance he may have a rebound?

My friend took Paxlovid and didn't have a rebound case.

We had Genie plus and found the parks to low to moderately crowded on the weekend, but Monday and Tuesday were slammed even at rope drop. It was tough to even move through Fantasyland by late morning. Genie plus times were an hour or two out by then. We took an afternoon break at the hotel to escape Monday since we couldn’t ride anything we wanted by then and the heat didn’t help. Even with Genie it was crazy. I heard locals saying the same.

We talked to a local while waiting for Fantasmic Sunday and she warned us weekdays would be crowded because of annual pass blackouts on the weekends. There were also a ton of tourists like us with pent up demand. We had to wait in a short line (sometimes roped off) to even get to the genie plus entrance in the afternoon.

We encountered lots of ride breakdowns and closures yesterday morning especially. We rope dropped Rise but it was closed for hours. Pirates and several of the e tickets were also closed so we ended up starting with jungle cruise of all things to get it out of the way since it doesn’t have lightning lane. We Rise reopened we were able to ride with a 25 minute wait, so we were happy regardless.

An afternoon parade and more shows in both parks would help suck up crowds I think.

Has it really gotten bad in the last couple weeks? Maybe they are low on staff on the rides due to covid and can't run as many vehicles? We were last in park on July 2 and 3 (covid has kept us away since) but the parks were really enjoyable those days. No super long lines, not many breakdowns. But Covid is RAMPANT right now and I have to imagine CMs are calling in sick in droves.
Any word on if this wave of covid is at its peak right now in your area? I would be so happy if it was on the downturn at the end of summer when we are there. The parks will be moving at a snail's pace if even more CMs call out sick.

I don’t think it’s on the downturn here yet. I know soooooooooo many people with covid right now, it’s crazy. Even more than last Dec/Jan (when we got it).

I know this is completely speculative, but we were planning to be there Thursday, August 31st, and Friday, September 1st. We may have flexibility where we could do Saturday, September 2nd instead of one of the other days. If we are trying to avoid crowds (as best we can), could it make sense to try Saturday instead? It is Labor Day Weekend if that makes a difference.

We went during this time period some years ago, and it felt empty - was hoping for similar this year, but sounding like we won’t be having a repeat experience!

That's what I was afraid of. Hopefully y'all will start getting some relief in the next few weeks. It's crazy high here too. Dh and I just got it for the first time.

I wouldn't blame this all on covid, but whatever. Not going to debate that. 🤷‍♂️

Most summers I've noticed weekdays are much, much more crowded than weekends IMO due to lower price tickets during week (kids off school) and less pass blockouts. I normally go on Saturday's during summer and find it enjoyable with lower crowd levels.

Once school is back and less Magic Key blockouts than it flips back to crowded weekends; again I've noticed this trend with previous AP before closure/Magic Keys.

Well, given that Halloween Time officially starts that Friday I don't think I would expect super low crowds that weekend...

From the sounds of these park experiences, I'm glad I chose not to continue being an annual pass holder.

I sure wish the parks would get back to a some-what normal time...

We’ll 2 days down and we have had some magical moments but the crush of people and the crazy lines (always seem longer, often double what is posted) are driving us insane. Yesterday we went on Jungle cruise with 40 minute wait time but waited over an hour, than we went on Pirates with a 25 minute wait and got on in less than 8!!! Mind you that was our only good experience with posted times. Anyways, our next day is Friday so we will see how that goes!!!

I don't know why it happens, but it's common. I think, though, it happens immediately. Like, you will feel better for a few days and then suddenly backslide and have symptoms/fever again.
