Issues with MK photo shoot

As I had posted a few days ago, our EM couldn't schedule the MK photo shoot for us. Emily called me last nite to tell me why. Because we are there during the grad nite celebrations, they had to inform us that there will be lighting tressels in front of the castle which will be there all week for the band performances. Grad nites are, I believe, April 26 & 27 and May 5 & 6. So anytime during that week the tressels will be in front of the castle and will show in your castle pictures.

Should I still do the MK photo shoot? The other pictures in the castle, behind the castle, at the caroussel, tea cups, etc. will not be affected. I booked it (5AM!!!) but am not sure if I should spend the money for the photo shoot or not? Opinions?

I would still do it. You probably won't get the picture with you and the full front of the castle in the background but there are a lot of other shots. The back of the castle is still pretty and the photographers will come up with a lot of good ideas. I would do it.

OH NO!!!! My Photo session is planned for april 26th, I am so upset now!!!!!!

Darnit I just emailed my coordinator and got an out of office reply so I wont hear back from her until wednesday at the earliest. Would you happen to know if the decorations will be up for the entire week in april and may, or just between the 26th and the 6th? I could still possibly do it on April 25th if that's the case. Arghhh I am just so upset about this!! Thanks for letting us know so I can know for sure, my EM never mentioned it. Thank goodness for the DIS board!

Grad nites are Friday and Saturday (I think!), but I don't know "when" they will put up the lights, etc. for the bands. The way I understood from Emily, they will stay up the entire week between the two weekends of Grad Nights.

Quick story, way back when we got married 10 years ago, our honeymoon was at the Polynesian Lagoon View, we heard so much rock/bass from the bands in our room that we felt like our whole room was vibrating. Us and a lot of other guests complained at the front desk the next morning. Guess where we're staying in 2006 the second weekend of Grad nites--the Contemporary Tower - Magic Kingdom view. Guess we'll be bouncing around our rooms again!!!! LOL

952LisaR gave excellent advice. I can only add that I would speak with the person who coordinates the MK photo sessions and ask him/her to talk to the photographers about the Grad Night situation. I'm sure the photographers have dealt with plenty of situations like this before and have come up with some beautiful shots from other angles. (For example, there was a tall crane behind the castle while they were preparing it for the 50th anniversary celebration. I'm sure the photographers found ways to work around it.)

During my MK photo session last year, someone was attempting to break a Guinness World Record. The area to the front & right of the castle was being used for this. My husband and I saw lots of people, lots of lights, and even a film crew. My photographer worked around the situation. I’m hopeful that a photographer could work around the Grand Night situation, too. You won’t know unless you ask. Definitely ask.

I just got a response back from my coordinator about this. She said The trusses will be on Cinderella's Castle beginning on April 27, 2006 through May
7, 2006. She gave me the contact info for the photographer coordinator and said I could speak to her if I had any questions about it, so I plan on calling her tomorrow. I'm hoping that I can switch it to the 26th and hopefully that should be okay. Let me know if anyone wants me to ask any specific questions for them before I call tomorrow!

I would definately still do the photo session! Eventhough you may not get the very front of the castle, there are so many other beautiful angles! May I ask what are these grad nights? Is this the graduation from the internship programs?

Unfortunately, no. Local high school seniors come in the groves to act obnoxiously and be loud for everyone's enjoyment

If it's like the one in disneyland I went to, they have the parks open for a few hours at night only for the grad students and chaperones. But since they are in WDW, they tend to hang out in the parks during the day time also. I think they stick to mostly Magic Kingdom and MGM studios, but you never know. But if you're there during those days, you might want to head over to the animal kingdom or epcot.

My wedding is wedged right between the week of Easter and Grad nights.. It was the only dates that would work before the summer and I didnt want to worry about the florida summer heat. I hope the crowds aren't that bad while I am there though.

i just spoke with the photography coordinator. Turns out they are putting up the big lighting structures on april 24th, the day of my wedding of course!! And they are staying up until May 7th. She said they are in the front of the castle only, but they are pretty big. She said they would try to work around it, and they are going to take stock pictures of the castle and photo manip us in front of it for certain shots. but the back and sides and inside of the castle are still unobstructed.

Very disappointed :(

Mary, if they are putting them up on the 24th, could you do your MK photo shoot that morning (or even the day before) to avoid the lighting structures. Although then your DH would see you in your dress.................but just a thought.

I thought about that too, but I think I'd rather have the lighting fixtures in my pics then have my DH2b see me before the wedding.. I will just have to learn to be happy with getting almost everything I want, LOL.

But if it rains and they cancel my fantasmic dessert party.. that's another story!! :snooty:

Just thought I'd share this picture of the castle during grad nite week.. could only find one pic.. couldn't find a picture of it during the day unfortunately.

Well... It doesn't look as bad as I was picturing it.

Anyway just thought i would share! I'm not obsessing, really! ;)

Just thought I'd share a photo that shows a little bit of Disney photo magic. It's a "before" and "after" shot that they gave to me: click here.

I'm sure they'll be able to create a little magic with your photos, too.

That's a beautiful picture! :goodvibes I hope the manips of the MK turn out that good! Since my future husband does a lot of photo manipping and touchups himself (his work title is "digital artist"), he is going to be a harsh critic though LOL.

At my brother's wedding, his wife hired the most horrible photographer.. who forgot to include the bride in most of the shots!! We were all gathered for "family pictures" of our side of the family, but she wasn't in any of them! So he photo manipped her back in,, and she looked like a floating ghost LOL! So I guess anything that looks better then that I will be happy with!

Yes, I think Disney did a nice job with that photo. It was odd posing in front of the mirror in full makeup & styled hair with just my cover-up & skort on. But my photographer told me that Disney was going to create a combined "before" and "after" shot, so I did as I was told. I had forgotten about that photo until I viewed the proofs a few weeks later.

Like your FH, I am a geek and do lots of fun things with photos. Here's one that I created a few months ago as I was working on one of my trip reports: click here. As you can see, I "removed" quite a few people (including my husband & daughter) from the "before" shot (seen on the right). It was tedious but fun (I had to recreate the lion on the left -- that took a bit of creativity).

I paid extra money to get high-resolution images of all of my DEP vow renewal photos. I prefer electronic photos to paper ones (I'm new-fashioned that way). I suggest you consider doing that, too, since your FH is a digital artist. That way he can easily alter your photos if the need arises.

So you don't repeat your SIL's wedding photos mistake, make sure you fill out your "shot list" and get it to your photographer. Also consider giving a copy of this list to a close friend/family member. They can check with the photographer periodically throughout the night to make sure that your list is being followed.

Do you have to pay for the proofs separately? Are they also $225?

Boy, I don't know the answer to that. Hopefully, someone here will answer that question for you. I had the MK photo session, that is true, but I had a large bill from Disney Photography since I had two photographers from 6 PM until 2 AM, and I even paid extra to receive my photos in high-res form on DVD.

Again, I hope someone here can answer your question for you. (If they don't, just place a phone call to your Event Manager or to Disney Photography for the answer.)

You did a great job with that photo manip!!! I'm hiring Randy Chapman as my photographer, so I believe I get a CD of all my pictures and I hear that he does a wonderful job taking all sorts of pics, so I'm not too worried about the list :) Though I do have a lot of locations in mind where I'd like him to shoot while we are at the Yacht club. I wish I could afford to have him for an unlimited time all day so he could just follow us around and take pictures of us everywhere, like at the boardwalk and later at the polynesian... arghhh.. must... stay... in .. budget, mary!! :scared:
