Issues with Batteries

Hi
I have a Canon Power shot sx 130. I love this camera...but it sucks the life out of the batteries. I don't want to carry a ton of batteries on vacation with me but I don't want to be without my camera either.
So my questions: is this normal? Are there any batteries out there that will last more than a day or two in my camera? I was told to get some rechargables..does this really help? What brand is best? Are they all the same?
Thanks for any and all input!

I stopped using my beloved bridge camera because I'd had as much as I could take with batteries!

Rechargables are definitely going to be your best (and a cheaper) option. You want to look for high power batteries though - not all are the same

The lithium digital ones (I think Energizer does them) do last. They should easily do a few days in a compact point & shoot. It also depends what you use it for. LCD drains power, as does shooting video with it so those are things to bear in mind if you are trying to conserve power.

I keep rechargables in the point and shoots because they do eat batteries. We change them every other day or so when on vacation.

I would get two (or three) sets of high powered rechargeable batteries, a good charger, and take those with me. I would let one set charge during the day and the rotate the out each night. I do that with my camera and GPS. My favorite batteries are made by eneloop by Sanyo.

No sure of the spec on that particular camera but does it have GPS? I have GPS in a couple of my cameras which just absolutely drain the battery. Turn GPS off and I get respectable battery life.

THANK YOU for this post. My family has made fun of me; rolled their eyes and called me crazy EVERY TIME I have complained about this! :rotfl2: While you say you love the camera, I don't. I took 3 cameras with me, along with LOTS of batteries on our Spring Break trip and used my Canon 130 the least. I also have trouble with action and low light shots. In comparing my shots, my oldest camera, a Canon Power Shot A 590 was by far the best. I've tried rechargeables, ultimate lithiums, regular cheap AA's and they're all about the same. I use my flash occasionally but do zoom a lot. I found carrying 2 cameras and/or 2 sets extra batteries the only solution. :tink:
