Issues standing for long periods of time (take 2)

It's not that unusual to wait 15-20 minutes in the Fastpass queue (which is where you go with the DAS, unless you need an accessible entrance or there's no FP line for that attraction).

I've waited 45 minutes in the FP line for Soarin', 30 for Space Mountain, and although I've never ridden them myself, I've heard of people waiting 45 minutes in the FP line for Splash Mountain and an hour for Toy Story Midway Mania. So, the DAS wouldn't even help with mobility/stamina issues there.

If you're not comfortable using an assistive device, I've found that it's possible to keep moving in lines as long as they're not packed too tightly. And even if they are, they're a great place do do lots of back and leg stretches (psoriatic arthritis here).

Just wanted to say I love your screen name, I had forgotten the short story The Scarlet Ibis, which was my go to in speech class.

I also have degenerative disk disease along with spondylolisthesis, OA and was in a car accident 2 years ago which have left me in a wheel chair. I really think that you shouldn't discount the rollator. Its a great tool to use to get around. I use it at home to walk short distances and you are able to move and lean and sit as needed. I have one that folds in half making it easy to transport.

I have an autoimmune arthritis, and staying in any one position for any length of time, like more than 10 mins, causes my joints to lock up. I have learned to rotate my joints constantly so I don't stiffen up. I have to stand in all sort of lines in real life, like at the grocery store, Walmart, the post office, the kids' schools and so on. So I have to adapt.

The lines at Disney (as opposed to Walmart for example) actually move pretty fast, so it hasn't been much of an issue. Maybe you should try it out first, you might be surprised at how the lines move. They aren't fast, but you will be moving the whole time.

There are quite a few attractions where standing for 5-15 minutes is part of the experience - most often for a preshow, but you may have to stand in one place for the preshow and be in a different place to wait to get into the preshow.
Here's a link to a post that lists those attractions.

DAS does nothing to shorten or eliminate the stand for those attractions because it is part of the attraction. Other attractions have lines that are constantly moving forward at a slow speed. Even thse lines can stop at times - I've already been in the Fastpass line standing for 15 minutes for continuously loading attractions (like Pirates) if there is a problem with the line.
Even the Fastpass lines can involve a standing wait as they stop the Fastpass line temporarily to load guests from standby line.
So even though you want DAS, it is not going to solve your issues.

Most people using DAS have actually found they can minimize their need for it by using Fastpass and being aware of touring techniques.

I'm going to close this now as it has been pretty well covered.
