Issues charging to your magic bands after check out (and even before)

Just yesterday I received a bill in the mail from Disney...which stymied me since every purchase we made with our magic band, which was tied to our credit card. Long story short, any charges we made the afternoon/evening the day before our checkout and any charges made on our checkout day did not get charged to our account. This annoys me for a few reasons...

1. What is the dang point of the bands if I'm still going to get a bill?? I could almost understand losing charging privileges after checkout but for things we bought the day BEFORE we left? No. I would have just used my credit card for every purchase (which I had on me all trip long)

2. When I got the bill there was no way provided to pay the charges via credit card or online (as in no information given on how to do that). There was a phone number in itty bitty print in the upper left hand corner along with the resort (BWV) address. I called it and spoke with guest services, relayed my unhappiness and managed to pay the bill (she sent me a new itemized bill with the payment made).

She had no explanation why the charges weren't charged to our card. Everything added up when I added the amount that WAS charged to our card the morning of checkout (we got an email) and the amount we were billed for to the total invoice. It's just frustrating.

So just be aware that even if you have everything set up for charging, you may still be billed afterwards.

There must have been some snafu, maybe your credit card info got erased from the system somehow? Everytime we go, we have had no problems with the room charges. Usually a charge goes thru mid-afternoon on the day we check out for all the trip charges up to that point, then each charge after the check out time gets put thru our credit card as an individual chage.

Honestly, since the charges were correct....I don't see what the big deal is about the delay.........it was the same credit card...it would have ended up there anyway.

This could have been the cut off for the monthly billing maybe?

I assumed onced checked out I couldn't charge anymore?? Can you? Especially before check in. How is that possible without setting up a pin. We did this when checking in

I don't believe I called it a big deal, but the annoyance is to get a bill for your vacation 2 weeks after vacation ends when you think everything has been paid up since that's the way it was supposed to be set up. And the other annoyance is to get a bill with no explanations of what the charges were for since there was no itemized charge on it and that provides no way to pay it with the card that you want to pay it with or any payment instructions at all.

And of course we all know in the grand scheme of things it isn't the end of the world, but I want others to be forewarned that this could happen to them as well so they don't get an unpleasant surprise in the mail too.

Yes you can charge after checkout. At least we did last year with no problem. We did have a pin number setup which we use to complete every transaction for our entire visit. But in this case we were also billed for charges made the day before we checked out too.

Thanks for posting and sharing your story. The DIS used to be a community where we all appreciated posts like yours, and the kind of information you provided. Here's hoping our community improves again. :)

In our case, we got a bill for a charge we didn't make. I don't recall the specific amount, but it was over $200, I think it was in the $400-$500 range. It was kind of scary to be overcharged that much, and not having any real way to identify the charge.

I've posted about it before, but usually get blasted when I do. (I've even been told it didn't happen to me! )

So now, I prefer to use my cc for individual charges. With direct charges, you have the ability to dispute each charge individually via your cc company.

I think your situation must have been some sort of glitch. We have charged after check-out before and they just charged our CC on file again for those charges.

That is really weird that they sent you a bill with no information about how to pay it.

Thanks for this post. It's good to know that things aren't perfect. I'm terrible at keeping track so I'm going to make a point to keep track of everything we spend just in case I get charged twice or something. I also didn't know about a pin so I'm going to look into that. So far I've been using my Disney points to pay for my res. (except CRT) but those will run out as soon as I pay the balance for my room and tix.

Until you receive one of these bills, you have no idea how frustrating they can be. They barely look like they come from Disney and have no contact information on them. Disney once failed to hit our credit card at all and instead sent us a bill 3 weeks after our vacation that had to be paid via check. We love our credit card points so giving up a whole vacation's worth of points, which would have netted us some nice cash back, was frustrating. We never got an explanation for why they sent us a bill rather than charging the card on file. For a system that is touted as being seamless, it certainly continues to have glitches and people should be aware of it.

I also feel for the folks who recently encountered glitches with the DDP. Some folks are reporting that they had to pay for their meals, then have the charges reversed when DDP was fixed.

I personally would be talking to disney and not the forum on this one. What did disney say happened?

The CM I spoke to had no idea how/why it happened...and processed my payment via the card I provided her.

When was the trip? There was a day, I think early april when the whole sales system was down and they went to the paper backup. I wonder if your checkout day was the same.. Still seems weird they would bill you later but at the same time suddenly another charge would have been worse to me...

My trip was May 12-15...there was no outtage on the 14th/15th. The magic band WORKED but payments from the afternoon the day before checkout and on our checkout day were not processed.

Failure by the resort to properly process the charges to your CC.
