Summary: A member of the Disney Experience Team inside Hollywood Studios told my there is a known problem with MDE and the I-phone 6. Evidently, when Apple released the I-phone 12, it also pushed through an update to all the older phones, which caused a problem with MDE on I-phone 6's. If you have an I-phone-6s or 6s plus, do not waste time trying to get a Disney CM to try and fix MDE.

Details: I tried to get in the queue for Rise of the Resistance at 7:00 am from our room, and MDE was not working. I then went to the front desk at BWV and they spent over an hour trying to fix it and thought they had it fixed. I then went to HS and tried to get into the queue at 2:00 pm and MDE once again did not work. We happened to be in the area by the currently closed Indiana Jones Stunt Show, and there was an umbrella that said Disney Experience team with several CM's with I-pads. I asked one of them if they could help me since I could not even try to get in the queue. She asked what model phone I had. I told her an I-phone 6s, and she said well then I can help you. I said help me fix MDE and she said no, but she could put us into a backup queue at the end of the day. She then said, there is a known problem with MDE and the I-phone 6s ever since Apple pushed through the update, and Disney is in contact with Apple to correct it. The fix will need to come from Apple, and until then then is nothing anyone at Disney can do. Fortunately, my wife has a different model I-phone, so we will be able to use her phone to access all the features of MDE for the rest of this trip.

ETA: some features of MDE do work on my I-phone 6s, but not all.

Thanks for bumping this topic. I joined a long conversation, on a different board, regarding this issue and have concluded that it is time for me to upgrade my phones ... sigh. I'm toting two phones (6S and 5S) on different carriers as I live at the fringes of coverage. A significant gain from upgrading will be the move to a single handset with dual-SIM; the next most significant gain will be remaining "in good graces" (?) with Disney's IT Team. LOL ... oh, the times we live in!

Could you include the link to the conversation on the different board? Before posting this thread, I searched quickly and thought I was the first to report this issue, but I would like to read more about it if there is "long conversation on a different board"
Thanks

lol...you are trying to use a 5 year old device that has been place on the "not supported" list by the manufacturer.

Time to spend some money and do a long over due upgrade

I saw this somewhere else...U need to kick-down for a newer phone. No support for "old" tech. My wife finally dumped her precious 6 plus of a 12 pro. Now no issues using any apps.

I know what board I saw this on, but If I state what board it was I don't want to get in trouble here. It was not on DIS boards. I read this a couple of months ago. I get it. I finally gave up my 5s a few months ago. I liked the size, fits in my pocket. I don't like having an "I-pad" up to my ear as a phone. I remember when my wife forgot her 6 plus at my in-laws once and they called me to come get it. I asked her how she didn't realize it wasn't in her purse, because her purse should've weighed about "10 pounds" less than normal.

Thanks to the previous 4 posts for their advice. I know I am old, but I appreciate well made functional products that last for years, not months. Except for when I am at Disney, I only carry my cell phone in case of an emergency, or if my 1998 Mercedes 230 SLK breaks down. So far I have not needed it for either of those two purposes:)

Thanks, I did not know it was on the not supported list. I will need to check that out. However, if it is no longer supported, Apple should not allow updates to be downloaded, especially if those updates cause applications like MDE that worked perfectly before the update to no longer work.

ETA: I think we had the same phone attached to our landline for over 30 years. This new world of built in obsolesce, and "not supported" after 5 years does not seem like progress.

ETA2: Clarifying what I learn on posts below, while the iPhone 6 is no longer supported, the iPhone 6s is still supported.

FP+ was the reason that I finally upgraded my perfectly serviceable flip phone to a smart phone. :teeth: I use a laptop or tablet to DIS and for most other digital tasks. Now it looks like I may have to upgrade my basic smartphone to have a shot at RotR Boarding groups. I won't have to worry about that for another year though. Not sure if I should be happy or sad about that, LOL.

It wasn't on disboards but another site. I don't believe that site is permitted for mention on this site. Sorry ... :(

I hope you can appreciate how this is an imperfect analogy. Your land line phone performed exactly one function and worked the same in year 1 as year 30. Meanwhile your iPhone is a combination phone, camera, web browser, email client that runs literally thousands of apps. You received 5 years of free feature enhancements before it reached the limit of its CPU and RAM.

The iTunes listing page for the My Disney Experience app says it requires iOS 13 or later. The iPhone 6 tops-out at iOS 12. You may be running an older version of the Disney app which no longer works properly due to back-end IT changes on Disney's side. Unfortunately that's the nature of technology. Computers, tablets, smartphones, game consoles and other tech have brought a lot of benefits to our lives, but the need for periodic upgrades is the trade-off.

My main reason for posting this thread was to let others who might have an I phone 6s that they might have problems using MDE. I understand my analogy was imperfect. I added that analogy to a later post in this thread, when I overreacted information I received in this thread that I thought indicated my iPhone 6s was no longer being supported. I did not realize that while the iPhone 6 is no longer supported, the iPhone 6s is still supported, so it should still work with MDE.

FYI: Just installed the latest update tonight from Apple to my iPhone 6S. It is iOS 14.2 and Apple is still supporting the iPhone 6s.
Also, I uninstalled and reinstalled MDE and am running the newest version.

Umm- I was just at WDW and didn't have any problems getting a boarding group OR using Mobile ordering with my iPhone 5SE. Are all of you working for Apple?

According to the person on the Disney Experience team, it is only an issue on the iPhone 6s.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s are different models. The 6s has a faster processor and twice as much RAM as the 6. Yes, the 6s is still able to run newer operating system releases while upgrades for the 6 ended two years ago.

Thanks. I have been reading your posts for years, and you have always offered accurate comments. I should have known the problem was in one of my posts. Looking more closely at the supported list I posted above, I now see the 6S and 6S plus are listed, but the regular 6 is not. I was just so frustrated when I could not get MDE to work properly on my iPhone 6s, since almost everything at Disney World is so much easier if you can do it on the phone app, and some things can only be done on the phone app.

I updated the title and my previous posts to reference the iPhone 6s and 6s plus. It makes sense the iPhone 6 does not work, since it is no longer included in the supported list. However, MDE should work perfectly on the iPhone 6s, but does not, so anyone using an iPhone 6s should not waste time trying to get a CM to try and fix it. They need to wait for the fix from Apple.
