Looking on line at the national chains.

Econo Lodge, Super 8, etc.

Any experiences or preferences?

I'm looking specifically at a few on 192 just west of World Drive or in another area close to one of the entrances that's priced about the same and come recommended.

Thanks!

If you're comfortabe using priceline or hotwire, I'd recommend doing that.

Last time (Feb04), we got Doubletree Club for $44 and it's right on the entrance to the DTD hotels.

I would never go back to a motel chain anymore. Not because I'm a snob, but with Priceline or Hotwire, I can get a 3star hotel for lower than the price of those motels.

We've stayed 2 or 3 times at the EconoLodge Maingate Hawaiian on 192. Rooms were good size, large pool and close to Disney. Another good place if you need more space is Days Suites Maingate East by Old Town. We were there a year or so ago in a huge 1-bedroom suite for $39.95/nite.

Please enlighten me on the use of Hotwire and Priceline.

If they accept my offer I'm obligated to buy the room?

What if it's nowhere near where I want to be?

I would sure like a 3 star for the price of a two but I kinda wanted to stay along 192 because of the food choices. I'm unfamiliar with other areas.

The way Priceline works is you pick area you want, how many stars you want and then you name your price. If accepted, they debit your credit card immediately and it is not refundable.

With Hotwire, they will list the prices, amenities, how many stars it is. You select what you want, then they'll tell you what hotel you get.

With these 2, you don't know the exact hotel name you'll get, but if you check out these sites, you can get an idea of what a hotel goes for.

Since we drive from Akron to WDW, we always priceline/hotwire a night's stay on the way down and back, and first night in Orlando. The one's we've gotten so far:

Amerisuites - $35
Comfort Inn - $29
Doubletree Club - Lake Buena Vista - $44
Hilton WDW - $89
in May 04, we've got Gaylord Palms at $85

Some people have gotten Swan/Dolphin at $85 a night too. So it all depends on the area you're wanting.

We booked during the Christmas season and got a three star(Sheraton Safari) for $39.95 a night + tax. Such a deal! I do think it is critical to read the recommendations on the websites listed on the previous post if you are a novice.
