What you can get out of a company when you call to cancel something?

At the start of July we ordered a computer desk from Argos, at the time we were told we'd be contacted by the end of the month with a delivery date. On Thursday (30th) I got an automated call from them apologising and explaining that due to a problem with their supplier, I'd now get a delivery date around August 14th. :headache:

That was going to cause us a big problem as we needed the desk to organise the office and clear boxes out of the nursery, which was stopping us doing the nursery too. I decided to call and cancel the order and we'd go to Staples in town as they had some decent desks too so we could get on with sorting the house.

Well I called up and got a really nice girl on the phone who asked if she could check something before cancelling it which I was perfectly happy for her to do. She came back 5 mins later and told me she'd found stock somewhere else in the country and could have my desk delivered today (Aug 1st) which I agreed to. Today the van turned up and delivered my desk, a whole 13 days before I was told I'd even have a delivery date!

Always amazes me what a cancellation threat/slight amount of kicking uo a fuss can get you. Still annoying it had to come to ringing up to cancel though... :rolleyes1

My DW would be with you on this one. Her biggest pet hate is porr customer service and she is never shy about getting on the phone, or challenging someone face to face, if she feels we are being treat unfairly.
We generally find that if you are polite, but firm, there are people that are willing to help and try to come to some sort of resolution to your problem.
Well done for getting yours sorted. Hope the nursery goes well :thumbsup2

Glad you got your desk Sophie - good luck with the nursery :)

last time i had an order with argos for a bed they were a nighmare, so im glad it was ok for you xx

good result.:)

wow not long till baby arrives now.

Glad you got this sorted out. We ordered our sofas from argos and one arrived faulty - with ripped leather, and we had to wait two weeks before it was replaced. I have always found their DIY instructions easier - at least they use words instead of just pictures like IKEA!:rotfl:

Argos are great until you have a problem with them. We bought a shower from them a couple of months ago then suddenly it stopped working. We had to pay for someone to take it out and then put the new one in. They swapped it without a problem but when our friend had put it back in this one didn't work either so off to swap it again but have got to pay again for our friend to put this one in. We can claim but we have to write to the claims office then they will write back before we can get the ball rolling. We will be out of pocket for weeks through no fault of our own:mad:

Glad you got your desk Sophie:thumbsup2
