Island Tower at Polynesian Villas & Bungalows

So I've been puzzling over this for a few minutes here - and I think there is a chance it's a fitness center/gym or an arcade. It's definitely NOT IMO a QS restaurant since there is no kitchen attached. Just below it you can see a bunch of bathrooms (although there isn't really a clearly defined exit and entry for those either) and the area just to the left of that with all the rectangles with diagonal lines through them - that is storage, possibly cold storage on some so I am thinking that is concierge/grocery delivery storage. But nothing else in the area suggests a way to prepare food nearby.
That's my guess too - I'm going w/ gym.

Looks like they’ll be a lot of studios with a ‘roof and air con’ view!
Do you mean the pop up on the top/back of the building? Pretty sure that is elevator/mechanical and fire escape/stair and roof access.

EDIT- Ahh no. I see it now. You mean the entire floor of rooms above the area we are talking about that have the windows mostly blocked by the cement wall in front of them? Yeah - I didn't notice that as much on the first look through but now that I see it - it's so egregious. It's a lot deeper than the rest of the building and totally unclear from the photos of work progress why that happened or if there will be balconies or how it's being handled. If those are super deep balconies then people will LOVE it. If those are not traversable to the rooms then easily the worst rooms in the tower.

It seems too big and too centrally located, but is there a chance of a Community Hall? PVB doesn't have one yet, right?
A fitness center/gym is much needed for the resort. Right now, everyone at Poly has to go to GF.

Both a Community Hall and/or a fitness center would be a great addition.

A close look at the plans (if they haven't been greatly changed) indicates that it is one large room with a centrally located pillar used for taking the load from a support beam.
Other pillars are shown built into the walls on either side.

The only entrance is located on the top right, showing as double doors opening outward.
There are no interior doors or other means of access shown.

The plans show that from the entry doors, down to the bathrooms, there is going to be a protective covered walkway, with the sidewalk that goes around the pool connecting to it in the middle.

The bathrooms are shown to be accessed from the outside, via the same covered sidewalk, and appear to be for the use of those at the pool.
There appears to be a men's room, women's room, and two private Family/Changing rooms.

Back to the large room in question.
If it is to be a fitness center, the restrooms would be connected to it, not the outside pool area.
If it is to be a storage area, it would not have an all glass front and a formal double door entry.
If it is to be a retail space (as others have suggested) then it would need interior store rooms, which it does not have.
Thus, I believe a Community Hall, located right next to all the activities in the pool area, makes the most sense.
.

This is absolutely not the place for this (so apologies for the small derailment!) but I’m most comfortable here in these DVC boards and felt like you all deserve to see the new preview that Disney Imagineering just dropped for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in case you haven’t seen it yet!…it’s a spoiler for the end scene I believe so don’t check it out if you don’t want any spoilers but it looks SO good🤩

When it seems like Disney is doing a project justice, it makes me even more excited for the other projects they have lined up aka the Island Tower.

Surprised they didn't get Randy Newman to write the song since he wrote the rest of the music to the film....

The music for that film is so good. I was too old for it when it was released but my kids love it and I enjoy hearing it around Disney parks and cruises. Was honestly a little sad the ride ends with an original song and not Down In New Orleans (which would be especially great in the DLR version).

It better be catchy…. I’m not grading it on a curve….

I think there’s a clip of it in that instagram link. It’s not bad, and it doesn’t sound like it’s going to be an ear-worm (which is a major plus in my book…I was reading a Splash Mountain/TBA grievance thread earlier this week and then I had “How Do You Do” stuck in my head for hours…). Anyway, I *am* grading on a curve and have a hard time believing anything could be as bad as the Burrow’s Lament. 😋

I just watched the newest episode of “We Call it Imagineering” on YouTube talking all about the music and sounds of Disney in the parks and they show a lot more of the ride and musical inspiration, including more of that finale song. Also, there’s a teaser of the Country Bear Musical Jamboree, too!

Maybe I'm being charitable, but the solid wall cuts both ways. That looks like a little bit of privacy for 2nd floor rooms that otherwise seem like they'd be very "open" to pool area guests down below!

“You’re the special spice that makes us complete.”

To bring that conversation back where it belongs, don’t we already have early floor plans for 1 of the floors? Does anyone remember if it showed how many bathrooms in the rooms shown? If the studio shows a split type bathroom or even better, 2 showers like the longhouse studios, then we can probably assume the studios in the tower will also sleep 5 since increased bathroom capacity allows for more occupancy, right?

I believe it was shared or commented on by @aka Charles? You might be able to find it by searching his post history.

Ok, I went back 6 months and didn’t find anything in his history but I did find @hockeydad21 shared this link https://dvcfan.com/2023/09/22/new-polynesian-dvc-tower-permits-reveal-room-details/

Don’t think there are multiple showers, but the one bedrooms appear to have two bathrooms.

Here is @ehh post about the first floor rooms.

“The two-bedroom lock-offs will have three full bathrooms, two of those being located in the one-bedroom lock-offs. Dedicated two-bedroom villas will also have three full bathrooms. Dedicated one-bedroom villas will have two full bathrooms.”

Excellent.

Just 1 normal bathroom in the tower’s deluxe studios.

Bummer. I’d find it hard to believe that tower studios won’t sleep 5 even if they’re a bit smaller than the deluxe studios but I’m not sure now.
If the green marked box is a duo studio like @ehh believes, then we probably know where some of the duo studios will live, here in these little crevices I circled. I think there’s another a section like this on the opposite corner of the building, too. Hmm I wonder if they’ll sprinkle some more duos in other areas, 10 is a very small amount I was hoping for more.
