I went shopping today and I heard "mommy." Turned around and realized by boys were at home. This happened several times and in several stores.

I just felt suddenly sad that they are old enough now to stay at home. I wonder if I'll ever stop turning around for all those "mommies" to come. :sad2:

i hear my kid cry when she's not there :confused3

sometimes all that whining sounds the same :lmao:

Yes, all the "mommmyyyy" calls sound the same. I have the auto-pilot in reverse, too. I have often called sales people honey or sweetie   , soooo embarrassing.

I call everyone sweetie and honey. Even when I remember their names. :lmao:

I did the same thing yesterday. I heard "mom" and thought is was my son. It sounded just like him, but he was also home. :)

I actually tell my daughter that if I don't respond when she calls mommy to just call me by my name and it will get my attention. She takes it one step further and calls me by my first, middle and last name when I don't respond to mommy.

Reminds me of growing up. There was one day when were out shopping and my mom had heard 'Mom' just one too many times. She heard it, turned around and roughly and rudely said 'WHAT?' only to realize it wasn't us, it was someone else's kids. :rotfl2: boy was she embarassed.:)

Is that the Mom version of calling you teacher Mom or Dad?

Yes, I often think it is my own child calling to me when I hear "Mommmm.." at sporting events. This happens with all the other baseball parents too. Here we all are, sitting in our folding chairs or in the bleachers, and we hear a loud "MOM" come from the dugout. We all look over to see if it's our kid who needs a Gatorade, a bag of ice, etc.

I have often turned my head at the sound of "mommy" before realizing my kids weren't with me.

I have also excused myself from a room full of adults by saying "I need to use the potty."

When my kids were babies, I would find myself doing "the baby sway" anytime I was standing in line, whether or not I was holding a baby!

When the kids were younger I used to catch myself rocking the shopping cart while waiting in line then realize there is no one in it!

Even weirder for me - my second dd doesn't cry much, but I would wake up in the middle of the night (with her right next to me sleeping) from phantom baby cries because (I think) my first cried so much when she was that age.

HA! I used to do this with my mom too...just her first name. She had a more unusual first name so it always got her attention, although it always felt weird.

I have turned around after hearing "Mom?" and said "What?", only to have DS say "Um, Mom, that wasn't me."

I jump when I hear a child start to cry, even when DS is no where around.

There is something about being a mom that makes you hyper-vigilant.

Ha, some of my students do call me "mom" especially when they're mad I look at it as a term of endearment.:teeth:
