We are dressing up for the MNSCHP this year, and I want to go ALL OUT. Has anyone ever dressed up to the point where children believe YOU are the characters? If so, how do you react to that? :lovestruc Have kids ever wanted pictures taken with you?

I used to be a makeup artist, and whatever I go as this year, I want to look OUTSTANDING. I want to look like I really am THAT character. :worship:
Is it wrong to go as a Disney Princess if you really do look like her? Is that misleading?

I really don't know yet what or who I'm going to be- I am just trying to figure it out. I do know that I am excited!!!

I know that outside the party, Disney is very strict on protecting their face characters from would-be imposters. I think you'll be fine AT the party as long as you don't misrepresent yourself to children as the actual character- that is, don't sign autographs or let them take their picture with you, even if they want to. I'm not sure if this is your intent but it would be a bad idea.

Now, if you are 4 years old and in a princess costume, you WILL be called "Princess" by nearly every CM you meet! ;)

Perhaps a CM can give you some better guidelines.

Actually, Disney had been known to tell adults dressed as Princesses that they needed to change before going to the party so they were not confused with a princess. They do not want children getting confused.

Cms encourage you to dress up for the party, but they DO FROWN upon impersonating one of their characters. If kids start approaching you for photos and autographs and you start impersonating that character, you will be asked to stop and /or leave.I saw a guy dressed as Jack Sparrow told by the Cms to stop or he had to leave

I belive it even states what most people on here are saying on the website. I would recomend maybe picking something not Disney related to dress as. Then you will be able to go all out and not have to worrie about it.

Thank you for all the help!

My intent is definitely not to "impersonate" a Princess- but yeah, I want my costume to be incredible and difficult to tell whether I am staff or patron.
HOWEVER, I do not want to get in trouble or make anyone angry!

Now I know to stay away from Disney characters- totally cool- and to just dress up non-Disney. :lovestruc :wizard:
Honestly, I was in a bit of a panic thinking of the amount of clothing I'd have to wear, in late September heat! :scared1:

Thank you for the tips!

When I went a few years ago there were 2 ghosts who were dressed up better than the Haunted Mansion folks. We just assumed they were CM's until we saw them shopping for pins in a shop. I was very impressed!

We were wondering about this as well cause we are going on halloween. I want to get a nice costume but don't knw what's allowed and not allowed.

These are the only rules I've found

FOR THE SAFETY OF YOUR CHILD AND OTHERS, PLEASE ADHERE TO THE GUIDELINES BELOW.

Halloween costumes should NOT:
Obstruct the guest's view or interfere with their ability to board/unload from attractions and/or the Walt Disney World Resort transportation system (including monorails, ferry boats and motorcoaches).
Drag on the ground.
Contain sharp or pointed objects or material that may accidentally stike another guest.
Be offensive to other guests.
Contain any weapons which resemble or could easily be mistaken for an actual weapon.

And I've read that CM's ask you (if you're in a disney costume) to not take pictures, sign autographs or do anything else that might make people think you're a castmember.

So from my understanding its totally okay to dress like a disney character, but you should not impersonate a CM.

I'm going as Tink this year & plan to have a great costume & makeup. However if any child asks me if I am tink, I'll tell them that no I am not, I just really like Tinkerbell & if she wants to see the real Tinkerbell, she's in Pixie Hollow. IMO that's the best way to handle questions like that.

It's fine to go as a Disney character, just like others said, don't go along with being that character if kids come up to you. I was Snow White 2 years ago and a couple of kids pointed at me and said to their mom "look, it's Snow White!", but no one came up to me asking for a pic or anything. I've gone to several parties and have seen a bunch of people dressed up as Disney character & princesses!

I saw that Jack Sparrow and he was very impressive (as were the others in his party..including a todler dressed like Jack the monkey). And yes, I saw kids approach him and I understand why Disney would have an issue. This seemed like a nice guy, but not everyone could be.

Where are you getting your tink costume? I have been looking and everything I find is pretty short lol.

I had this happen to me at the Pirate and Princess Party a few years back. I was Snow White (see my avatar)- I was told as I came in the gate not to sign autographs. Nothing was said about photos, and of course I got asked for photos. I asked a CM what I should say- because there were seriously some people who wouldn't let me say no (I stood next to a shop on Main Street for a really awkward long time saying to a family "I'm not Snow White- I can't take a picture - I could get thrown out!" And they kept asking and standing next to me- and I couldn't get away). The CM said as long as I said I was not the real Snow White I wouldn't get in trouble for my costume.

The main idea is that you are not allowed to walk around and impersonate the character. I told people that I was just a good friend of Snow White and she let me borrow her dress for the party. :) Now if I had said to people "Oh yes! I'm Snow White, I'll take a picture!" Then I would have been asked to either change or leave.

Last year we encountered 3 people dressed up as Oogie Boogie, Lock, and Barrel from Nightmare Before Christmas. We were so impressed with their costumes that we begged for them to take pics with us. NBC is my fav movie and WDW doesn't seem to honor this particular movie or its characters for its biggest holiday celebration. Other people were commenting on their costumes too. We also saw some girls dressed as Evil Queen and Celia (Monsters, Inc) and they were SUPER authentic looking. I stopped to tell the Celia-girl how great she looked, except she didn't speak English! If this girl has a great Celia costume, why can't Disney have one?

Last year my family decided to go as characters from Alice in Wonderland. Now I was obviously not the real White Rabbit, nor were my son and daughter in law anything like Tweedlee and Tweedledum, although they looked absolutely hysterical. However, my daughter when dressed did look uncannily like Alice. I don't think we realised just how much until she put the costume on.
There were moments when she was slightly apart from the rest of us and once when we were all eating at the Plaza Pavilion when children came up to her and asked for photos and autographs. We knew the rules and so Bec had a quiet word with the parents and then they always managed to distract the kids.

Yeah it really stinks that most costumes for adult women are "naughty" or whatever - like "naughty" nurse or "slutty" princess - talk about stereotyping women.

Anyhow, my mom is talented and kind enough to make my costume. We are using the costume that the Tinkerbell wears at Disney as a model. It will be kind of short (like the one at Disney's is, around mid-thigh) but I plan to wear bloomers underneath - like the kind you wear under a cheerleading uniform - so I won't flash anyone. :cheer2:

We go every year in late September/early October and I just want to warn you that it can still be very hot. I love dressing up, but a couple years I've had to modify my costumes at the last minute because of the heat. Wear something that will let the air in... :flower:

I agree..Last Sept we scrapped our costumes and wore halloween themed tshirts.85 degrees with 100% humidity is just nuts.I felt so bad for the little ones I saw in those furry pooh and eeyore costumes.

Or you could just have a button made that says "NOT the real Tink!"

I would LOVE to see what your mom does with Tink! I have done many different Disney costumes, but just have not come up with a way to do one like Tink at Disney! I hope you'll post pictures here when it's done!

I do know that she is planning on using a womens bra with clear straps as a base and then sewing the dress from there. Because of the sweetheart neckline, a bra makes a good base.
