I keep Jude's food in the laundry room. The lid doesn't fit well on the little bin, and if he wanted to get into it, it is easily accessible. He has never gone into the bin. He always waits until I feed him in his bowl. Sometimes I am so amazed at how 'polite' Jude is. If you every have an opportunity to adopt an older dog, Jude was 8 when he came to us, don't hesitate. You may get a real gem! Just another of the zillions of things I love about "Judiepoodle".

Polite?

:rotfl2:

They are all ill mannered  I'm convinced it's because we raised them from puppy or near puppyhood. The closest one to being polite is the Schnauzer we rescued at 10 months. :confused3

I am ALL about adult dogs now. Mine are getting older, 3, 4, and 5 years old, but haven't grown up yet. :sad2:

No, I have a lab. When it comes to food, he is an obsessive hoovering maniac who doesn't know the meaning of "I'm full". However, he is the sweetest, most lovable dog I know, and doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body.

I agree totally with Dawn.

We also adopted an 8 year old dog, he is now almost 11 years old. It would be so easy for him to get into his food container. Really easy.

Now - my plug for the older dog...ours was house trained, and his personality at the humane society was exactly how he was at our house. He doesn't like storms, but they told us that at the humane society. No additional training was necessary, but we did it anyway!

Minky is the same way about his food. He can get to his food, but chooses not to. He waits more or less patiently for his dinner and never goes to his bowl before he takes his meds. He sleeps quietly at the side of our bed, never ever tries to get on the bed.He NEVER messes up in the house.

I guess the two things that I would say are not polite is 1) he barks like a maniac when anybody comes up on the porch, including family members(Ithink he has some vision impairment--once he sniffs us he's fine) and 2) he's a garbage surfer--if he can get to the kitchen can he will strew napkins and leftover food boxes all over the living room.

Is that politeness maybe a trait that's common to standard poodles, ya think?:confused3

Tucker was a timid eater and has never been one to eat anything but in his dish...except whatever I am eating. I have permanent drool damage on the shelf of my desk from him salivating over every bite of orange, banana, yogurt, chip or cookie I consume. I have been able to teach him to "gentle"ly take food from our hands. Prior to that you might loose a finger or two. Now he almost opens his mouth and lets you place the food in there. Of course, you have to remind him to be 'gentle' with each bite. He has a very short attention span. Do dogs get ADHD?

Both of mine are pretty polite~they are 11 and 8 yrs old though:goodvibes The 8 yr old terrier mix will actually turn his nose up at bacon!?!?:scared1: The boxer/lab is more than glad to eat it for him though;) I am a big fan of senior/mature dogs...they are the best:thumbsup2

Our dogs are all well mannered. Well, the puppy is still working on her manners. All 3 of ours would eat a whole bag of food if it was left out where they could get to it.

My neighbor had a basset that was like that. They just left the big bag of food open in the kitchen.

Me too. Minky is 9 now, a real sweet old gentleman.Very gentle. He's getting grey of the chin and eyebrows now. He's little slower and has some rheumatizz in his hips & back. He has to take medicine for his seizures. But he's my dog and I love him to bits.

My 4 1/2 year old pit bull is very polite. We adopted her as an adult 2 years ago. She understood right away that she couldn't play with the cat (who was 19 at the time), so when she want a little attention from the cat, she just flops down next to him, like 6 inches away. Sometimes she snuffles him, or gives his ear or butt a few licks.

She waits for the cat to finish drinking milk or water before she goes to polish it off herself.

She's only gone into the garbage twice, once for some irresistable food (don't remember what) and once to fish out two of her toys that we had thrown away! :rotfl:

Dawn, we need a picture of Judiepoodle. :yay:

JoDee is a soon to be a 5yr old lab(6/30). She loves her food and would eat out of her bin if given the chance. She does, however, wait until the food is put into her bowl and is told that it is okay to eat, before she starts.

my dog will sit in front of her treats and even if the box is open, she will just sit and wait for someone to get her one. She's a good girl :)

Kiani is my pup. She was about 3 when we adopted her from the pound. Completly house broken and car broken. She loves going for rides in the car but gets bored after like 10 mins. She doesn't bark, doesn't try to climb in my lap, and she doesn't like sticking her head out the window.
I could not ask for a more loving a well behaved dog (most the time). She also doesn't like jumping on furniture, but her long fur ends up every where.

DD's dog is very polite.. He won't even start eating until you tell him to go ahead and do so.. Same thing with treats.. You can lay one right across his front paws and he won't touch it until you tell him to.. He's a great dog.. :thumbsup2

Here is my baby dog! He is going to be 11. I wish he would live for ever!

NO! Not Freddy. He likes to "sniff" visitors. So he is not allowed to greet them. (until they are sitting)

My Dad's dog would just as soon take your arm off if you are eating something he wants!!!! He's obsessed with food.

Darn Yorkie. :headache:

Jude is a beautiful boy and he looks polite! :)

My two are very polite thankfully since they are so large. I leave their treats out and they have never thought to take one. Their food is accessible too and they don't touch it.

The other day I cut a piece of raspberry crumb cake to take to my MIL. I left it on my dining room table and went and did a few things. My dogs are taller than my table and can easily rest their heads on it. When I came back the plate was in the same place but the cake was missing. I was baffled for a minute until I saw Brutus with powder sugar and raspberry lips. That was a first, I guess he couldnt resist!

:lmao: I can picture that. Even the best dogs can't resist temptation. Annie, our first standard and Jude's aunt, would have done that. A little OT, but the rule in our house is, all chicken bones are removed to the dumpster immediately after dinner. I won't take a chance leaving bones in the house.
