Is YC really that much "stuffier" than BC?

We have stayed at the Poly our last several trips and love, love, love it, but have decided to branch out and see what we're missing! I've narrowed it down to YC and BC because of the proximity to Epcot and DHS - we have three kids and try to avoid the busses as much as possible because we are always lugging a double stroller.

I'm leaning toward YC because I like the looks of the decor in the rooms better than the BC, but I'm nervous because I have read several times that people think YC is stuffier than BC. Is it really that noticeable? I mean, it's Disney so there must be hundreds of kids staying there, just like all the other resorts, right?

I'd appreciate your comments on this! Thank you!

I'm curious about this, too. I stayed at BC a few years ago and I can say it was very laid back (typical Disney resort fashion, in my mind).

Not sure if this helps, but while we were there, we saw a family of about 12 people (grandparents, parents, kids, etc) all coming out of YC dressed in typical "yachting" gear - all in white or pale colors, cable sweaters, collared shirts - coming out to get a family photo. It was actually really cute to see all the little kids all dressed up, and to see the whole family together so happy. They were taking photos outside the back of the YC. Not sure if this reflects the way everyone is at the resort (I'm sure it doesn't), but it definitely made me think the YC was a little more formal than BC.

Stuffier, no... quieter lobby- yes! But mostly because the restaurants are farther away from the lobby than at the BC so you don't get dozens of people milling around, waiting to be seated.

We actually prefer YC to BC but are happy to stay at either.

YC also boards the buses before BC on the way to MK and AK. The boat dock is also closer to YC than BC. But BC is a shorter walk to EPCOT.

HTH!

Don't worry! We've stayed at YC several times when the kids were younger and never found it "stuffy"! The lobby is quieter because BC has Cape May Buffet and people are usually waiting for a table, but I never felt out of place with our kids.

Both BC and YC are great resorts! We like the themeing of BC a little bit better but if BC wasn't available we would definitely be happy staying at YC.

I've stayed at both and the BC does give the feel of being more laid back. But I think it's the decor and not the guests that make it feel that way. BC's lobby is airy and light. YC's lobby is subdued and a little darker. I wouldn't say that it is "stuffier" but it did seem to be quieter than the BC.

We stayed at BC because the decor appealed to us more there! Also BC has the Marketplace to grab a bite before heading out to the parks. YC hasn't a CS, so you'd end up walking over to BC for that.
But we strolled thru YC a few times, and didn't find it stuffy at all. We were looking at the big globe in the lobby, and the greeter came over to talk to us, very friendly. And asked us if we could find the hidden mickey!

Not at all. We have stayed at both. Our dgs had a ball. CMs are very friendly, helpful and always acknowledge you. There were lots of kids there. Yes, it can be quieter than BC lobby because of Cape May but there can be lots of families at the Captain's Grille as well.
If you like the decor, which we do, go for it. You won't be sorry.

Nope. Both are good. The YC lobby might be less exciting for kids, it's quieter and less colorful. But kids will not feel out of place at the YC. Do not underestimate how much easier it is to be the bus stop BEFORE the BC (a stop that serves BC and BCV). Way less crowded at YC stop, and you get home first too. I like quiet pool at YC better.

Actually we love both, and will stay at either depending on what's available, but prefer YC. We even have a saying at our house that we find ourselves repeating when at WDW, happily if we are at the YC, a little sarcastically if at BC: "Yacht Club Rules."

We have always felt welcome at YC, and never sensed any stuffiness. But then we were in the pool most of the time. No one can be stuffy in a bathing suit, in a pool, with a lazy river. I'm just sayin'.

On average, there are as many kids at YC as there are at BC. It is true that the lobby is quieter at YC than at BC for some reasons other posters have stated, e.g., there is a popular character meal at the restaurant in the BC lobby, which leads to crowds that don't form at the less popular restaurant in the YC lobby. In addition, I also think the extra noise in the BC lobby is due to the hard tile floors, which reflect the sound, compared to the wooden floors in the YC lobby, which abosrb the sound.

In the end, I think comments that the YC is "stuffy" are less about the reality of differences between the resorts and more about the person making the comment.

The Yacht Club is much quieter and the decor is dark woods and nautical. The Beach Club is noisy because of Cape May and brighter with beachy scenes.

I wouldn't call the Yacht Club stuffy as like the Ritz. The Swan/Dolphin seems stuffier than even the Yacht Club.

If you want a balcony to people watch and drink coffee in the morning, then definitely choose the Yacht Club. You are lucky to get a real balcony at the Beach Club. I don't know who's idea it was for the "Juliette" balcony.. but they are useless.

Not "stuffier" but a little more quiet and dignified maybe?

Less lobby traffic and noise, that's for sure.

I think if the YC/BC were all one big house then the BC would be the sunroom and the YC is the study or library. Does that make any sense at all?

Either of these hotels are wonderful in my experience and they share amenities + great location so you can't lose:wizard:

CMs are great at YC:banana:

Not at all!!! We stayed YC in 2010 for the first time (First Deluxe resort also) and Loved it!! 2011 we decided to try BC, which we also loved.

If BC were unavailable, I wouldn't hesitate staying at YC, neither would my DD or DH.

Enjoy your stay!!

yes it is stuffier but in a very good way.

Thanks everyone! I think I'm going to go for it and book the YC - I know we can't go wrong either way, but I think I like that we'll definitely get a balcony (or patio), and as silly as it may sound, I like that the bus stops at YC first. It really makes a difference with 3 kids and a double stroller!

On the balcony note - has anyone stayed on the first floor at YC? At Poly we love staying on the ground floor so that the kids can run around a bit on the patio/grass out front. I'm thinking of booking water/pool view - what do you guys think of ground floor?

Thanks again!!!

...

I completely agree :thumbsup2

I love this visual, if I had walked past during this, I'd have assumed this is where Thurston and Lovey Howell take the kids for holiday.

I stayed at the YC and had a room on the ground floor and loved it! The quiet pool was right outside of our room! I am definitly going to request the ground floor again. I think you will love the YC, it is much quieter than the BC, but they both are great resorts!

I have stayed at YC and the BC. Hands down I will tell you YC is 100% better than BC and it isn't stuffy at all. My kids actually prefer the YC to BC.

We've stayed at a ground floor/waterview room twice at YC. We were facing Crescent Lake and the marina and we loved that area. My in-laws had a gv 1st floor room facing the wedding gazebo and that was lovely too.

HTH.
