Is YC concierge worth $4,000 more than Swan?

I am having a hard time justifying staying at YC concierge during the holiday time. I booked 3 rooms for a total of 8 nights and the price difference between this and what Swan offered me is about $3,800 difference.

We love the concierge service at Disney resorts. However, this is for a standard view room vs Swan's lake view room w/a balcony. Plus since I am a Starwood Gold member, there is a chance I can use my pts to get upgraded to the club level.

There is NO WAY we can eat that much food/drinks to justify the almost $4,000 difference.

Should I just go with Swan and cancel YC concierge?

My heart says to stay at YC concierge, especially the planning office has been extremely helpful in making all our PS, but my head says Swan to save the $$ and spend it elsewhere.

What do you think?

Ok, well I wouldn't have to think TOO hard about this one..... skip the YC and go for the Swan!!!! $4000... wow, just think of all the wonderful meals you can eat, souvineers (sp) you can buy, etc, etc.!

The Swan/Dolphin are beautiful resorts and are located in that wonderful Epcot area.

This is a NO BRAINER.... TAKE THE SWAN!!

First,

How many people do you have in your party?

Is there some other type of room that you could stay in where you wouldn't need 3 rooms?

The planning staff are wonderful, aren't they?:D

I think you answered your own question when you said there is NO WAY you could justify the cost to stay at the YC.

Thanks for your replies.

We have 11 people including 5 little kids and 2 seniors (my parents). As you can see, we won't be eating much. It would be a bit tight to fit into 2 rooms (thougth 2 out of 5 kids are considered infants).

I would feel horrible to cancel YC given what the planning office has done for us, but $4,000 is a lot of $$:(

It's really a BIG difference in cost. I would absolutely choose to spend my 4000. elsewhere! The Swan gets great reviews here on the boards, I would absolutely go with the Swan. That is just too much of price difference.

.........can make this decision.

I would never pretend to tell someone how to spend their money, and in particular, their vacation dollars.

Several years ago, 16 to be exact, my DW and I decided to keep my childhood tradition alive and go at least once annually...(usually 3-4 times) to WDW and to stay on site with our 2 DD's. We decided to save and save and save and to make this a reality for our girls....we have NEVER regretted it! We are now much more financially set and it is not a financial burden. I bring this up because you MUST decide if the YC concierge is worth the extra money. (If you view YC as a more desirable alternative)

Please do what you feel is best. I suspect that you are leaning towards the Swan...which would be a great choice! However, if you really want to go to YC...I don't think you will regret your choice!

Good Luck...either way...you win!

Thanks everyone.

We are going to Disney next week and we will check out YC concierge lounge and then I will decide afterwards. I think I have already made my decision, but I just want to check to see how other people feel. Thanks again.

Could you maybe fit in 2 junior suites at the YC?

Would this be cheaper than the 3 rooms you have reserved?

$4,000 is a lot of money. Good luck with your decision.

I looked into the suites and Disney only offers them at rack rate!!!! I think I am done with our resort choice. Swan here we come!!!

The next thing is to figure out if they will offer AP rate for AKL for 1/1/ and 1/2/04. If not, we will be at Swan after Wilderness Lodge Villa until our vacation is over.

I LOVE Disney resorts and I know Swan is a great hotel, but there is just something that draws me to YC.

However, if the price difference is a bit smaller, we would stick to YC. But $4000 can be another vacation by itself..........

We had Poly concierge lagoon view reserved. It was a dream of mine. While I was not counting on an AP discount for this reservation in any way, I was really disappointed in the way Disney was handling the whole AP discount issue. I grew tired of all the "will they won't they" discussion, and just wanted them to announce either way.

When it dragged on and on I just decided to vote with my feet and stay elsewhere. I called and made AP reservations at the Swan.

And I have to tell you, that the second it was done I felt this huge rush of relief. It was such an incredible savings, just under $400 a night. And let's face it, no matter what your circumstances, that is a lot of money.

As stated previously, this is a purely personal decision, but I can tell you that I have never felt a moment of regret.

I got Swan CL for $214 per night using the teacher discount. I've read that most people pay less and use SPG points but I was thrilled to get this rate and I'm not complaining!!

The rate Swan offers me does not cover CL. However, I was told that CL is already all booked up for our dates, so even using SPG pts may not be an option to get an upgrade.

However, there is no comparison between CL and Disney's concierge service. I would not pay more than $40 for CL but I would be willing to pay for Disney's concierge. The hours alone makes a big difference.

If it were just my immediate family, I think we will stick to YC concierge for our stay since we hang around at the resort a lot. However, for this trip, most of the people in the group will be at the parks and they will not really use much of the amenities offered by the concierge including the food and drinks. So the choice becomes even more obvious.

It just that I feel horrible to cancel because of what Amy has done for us to book all the PS and be on top of everything.

a lake view room at Swan Nov 7-10 using AP discount for $154 a night. I later upgraded to an EPCOT view with a balcony for $184. Both prices are tax included.

Have you checked to see how many points you'd need for a DVC 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom? You could rent them from someone here on the DIS.

Having 2 full kitchens... 2 balconies... 4 bathrooms... tables... sofas... 6 TVs... the ability to save money on food... the ability to sit and chat in an adjoining room during naptime

If your choice is only Swan + $$$$$ or YC Concerierge, I'd swim straight to that swan.

What about doing YC lagoon view or standard view instead of concierge?? We stayed in a standard view room at the YC last November and loved it. :) They have the quick breakfast down in the lobby that's similar to the concierge offerings... except of course you have to pay per item. ;) But I'm sure you'd still save thousands.

We also love the Swan. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. :)

Good Luck!!!

The AP rate for the standard view room would still be $1,200 higher than Swan.

Personally, I like the room at Swan better than YC, but I like the concierge even more. Thanks for all your help.

We will be back at Disney World for many more years and YC concierge will be on our list next time around.:D

Just a question.... what types of food do they serve at the YC concierge level? I've read the YC/BC resort thread, and it seems that they just basically serve snack type/finger foods, is that right? That seems like a lot of money to pay for that type of food. I'm not putting it down, just wondering.

Mercy, it is the convenience of having some food and drinks between 7am and 10pm. You don't have to go anywhere to get a cup of coffee, soda or snacks. Also, a touch of a button, you are connected to concierge staff to get anything done. It is a great convenience and amenity. You will never be hungry while you stay at concierge level.

We loved Poly concierge when we were there last month and the food was plentiful for both breakfast and dinner time. I have heard YC/BC/BWI don't offer what Poly or AKL offers, but it should still be pretty good.

I would definitely go concierge if I can. The vacation is a lot more relaxing especially if you spend lots of time at the resort.
