Is WL gloomy?

We are deciding for the first week of Dec. whether to stay at WL or OKW. Every picture I see of WL always looks sooo gloomy and dark. We live in New England and I look out the window today at rain and darkness and then look at WL and it looks the same. Is it really that "depressing" in person?:confused3

The Wilderness Lodge is beautiful. Yes, it appears very dark in pictures. But pictures do not do it justice ;)

I don't think it is gloomy. The location is great, and it will be decorated for Christmas by then. It would be my very first choice of all the resorts!

The WL is a beautiful resort. We stayed there a few years back last week of Nov/first week of Dec. We loved it! The Christmas tree in the lobby is amazing.
There's nothing gloomy about this resort; very warm and cozy!

I can't imagine choosing OKW over WL. WL is gorgeous!!!

I'll be the gloomy vote. We are in an area that resembles the wilderness lodge- we have pine trees ect. (no waterfall though) So to us it didn't seem like vacation. The rooms did seem dark to us. But not depressing- just compared to GF or say the BC it did seem a little gloomy. But that's just us. I know other people love it. It isn't the easiest place to get to the other parks from either. The boat to MK is nice but everyplace else you kind of have to do the bus!
We had a choice this time between WL or Boardwalk and went boardwalk.

I did not think it was dark with the balcony is was very light to me. All we did was sleep anyway:thumbsup2

The decorations are not pastels if that is what you mean. The resort is not at all gloomy. The trees are all big tall pines to go with the theme. In December the decorations are unbelievable!

WL is one of my favorite resorts & don't think it is gloomy. But each to their own of what they think of any resorts. My brother who lives in Co said when I sent him a picture of the WL he said it reminded him of the lodges they have out there. But I been to some hotels up in Maine that was horribble dark & gloomy. Oh well go with your gut feeling. But at Christmas time WL wins hands down in my book.;)

It's not by any means "gloomy" but it's theme is a wilderness hunting lodge. The lobby itself is stunning, literally. The decor is dark though, lots of wood & timber. Lots of deep greens, browns & golds. Basically forest colors.

Even tho I haven't stayed there, I have spent some time there and it is stunning and cozy and beautiful.

That being said, the rest of my family (and WDW travel cohorts) are from New England. We go to WDW in the winter, and as much as we might like to try WL, the group keeps gravitating back to YC/BC. I think the "beach" theme feels more like vacation to the snow-bound amongst us. We've been tempted to try Poly as well, probably for the same reason.

But they are ALL fabulous!:thumbsup2

We would probably never stay at WL, but it is a beautiful, inviting & colorful resort. Not gloomy at all! We've eaten there & visited at Christmastime to see the decorations & always find the lobby to be very impressive.

WL could be fairly described as solid, substantial, beautiful, stunning, and slightly whimsical. But not gloomy.

However, if you prefer "light & airy," then WL may not be your cup of tea. It's no more light and airy than it is gloomy.

The color scheme of the WL is earthy colors so greens, tan, browns, deeper reds, etc. I don't think it is gloomy but I do find it very homey, warm and inviting. We love it!!
