Is Wallpaper Out???

It's one thing I really dislike about our house--the wallpaper. The previous owner LOVED wallpaper--in fact, I was dismayed to find that even in our dining room, she used plain WHITE wallpaper. Removing it is definitely a PITA. And I still have a lot more to do.

Wallpaper is definately out. As a recent homebuyer, anytime we saw wallpaper in a potential home, it was definately a turn-off. Would it completely stop me from buying the "perfect" house? No. However, all else being equal, I would buy the house with no wallpaper over one with wallpaper in it.

Our new house has absolute no wallpaper at all! Thank goodness.

our house had wallpaper in almost every room when we bought....and not nice wallpaper either . It was a total nightmare to remove, but we got it all down and repainted.

Then we moved on to the kitchen remodel and I did put up wallpaper in there. I'm kind of taken back that wallpaper is that "dated". I really still like my kitchen paper and it's much nicer than what was in here before. I guess I'm in the minority although I will agree that there are some bad wallpaper patterns out there

When we looked at houses we vetoed several that had wallpaper because we didn't want the hassle of taking it down. More often than not it was flowery wallpaper and I'm just not a flowery person. Plus, one house had large pink floral wallpaper through the entry hall, into the kitchen, and then into the family room. I have red furniture. All that paper would have to have come down. It wasn't just one room.
Also, paint is easy to cover with another coat of another color.
I had a friend that bought an older home. Very charming. When they took down the wallpaper in the dining room they discovered it was hiding serious water damage.

Wallpaper is way out. Borders too.
It could be a segment on I Love the 80s.
