I am doing some preplanning for my next Disney trip. We plan to stay for 6 nights, DH, DS,9, DS, 4 and myself. We have never been to Universal and was considering venturing over for one day. When I started looking at costs, it seems that it will cost about $400 extra just to do this. ($63 x 2 adult tix plus tax, $52 x 2 child tix plus tax, $70 round trip town car transportation, plus eats and other expenses) Plus, we will be on Disney Dining Plan, so we will be losing out on a day of included dining. Does this seem worth the extra expense or should we just wait until we can spend more days at Universal??? :confused3

Well you could save a little by getting the online ticket special..you can get 2 adult tickets for 99 plus 2 free kids...so that would be 200 for the tickets. (the tickets are also good for 5 days so if you changed your mind you could come back and visit again, but even with using just 1 day you'd save a little.

As the poster above mentioned if you can keep the cost down then US is worth it,my favourite park & we love WDW! As far as the Dining plan is concerned if you had an early breakfast & then a late Dinner, you would only need to buy lunch in the park.Honestly rides like T2,Shrek,Mummy,Et,MIB,Jaws....are unmissable & that's not including if you managed to "Hop" across to IOA!

Besides getting your tickets online, which will save some money and allow you to check out both parks (I kind of like IOA better), for one day, you would not be able to do much unless you also buy the Universal Express Pass for that day (or days) -- read all the fine print about that on their Web site. (It's only good for one ride on each listed attraction); price varies by season. You might want to go on another trip when you can plan 2-3 days when you also have a rental car (or when you can afford to stay in one of their hotels, which includes the Express Pass). Parking is additional (I think it was about $8.00 last Dec.); and it's a fair hike to the parks, esp if your kids are young. If your kids are older (tweens/teens) -- they will probably enjoy US/IOA more than little ones (Seuss Landing is cute for little ones). If you are going at one of the really low seasons, where crowds are comparatively light, you might enjoy a day there, but if you are going at a time that has any kind of extra draw (holidays, events, etc.), you are likely to be disappointed. There are several excellent attractions at each park, but it can be hard to get on them (we were there at one of the busiest times, and the wait even in the Pass line was sometimes kind of long). If you do decide to go, just be prepared about what to expect, be flexible, and you can enjoy at least some of it (people-watching is always fun). If you have younger kids, the Spiderman/Cat in the Hat character breakfast at Confisco's might be fun for them (Thing One and Thing Two also there), Sam I Am outside.

darn -- I just realized you included the info about your sons -- having recently been there with a 6-year-old, I think they would get more out of IOA than US (the Spiderman ride was a big hit with the 6-year-old; and he absolutely loved the Jurassic Park area -- we did not do the JP water ride though). If you go to IOA, take a change of clothes, and sandals for the boys; there are several opportunities to get wet.

Well I am a big time Disney lover, but when Universal put out their kids free deal I could'nt pass it up. We did 3 days Disney,3 Us/IOA. We did not stay on Disney property this time and we had a rental car,but I understand your issues. You don't have to lose a day of dining, I believe you can bank your credits towards 2 credit meal restaurants. Also I know disney now has magical express, but we always rent a car even when we stayed onsite. You could probably get a compact car really cheap with entertainment coupon. I said all that to say that if you have little boys US/IOA is awesome. I have 2 DS 5,and 3 and we will never be able to go to Florida again with out going to US/IOA. They loved Spiderman, Jurassic park river ride and area,Sinbad the Sailor stunt show at IOA. The loved MiB,Back to the Future, Shrek4d, T2, Jimmy Neutron toon blaster at US. I really think US/IOA is really geared towards boys.
