I'm getting concerned about my free dining trip at POR. I've never been to POR before, but I know that POFQ gets first shot on the bus and POR is left.

Is it really that hideous? We wil have our own car if need be, but after driving for 18 hrs., I really don't want to drive anymore.

I asked this question in another thread. Some posters said it wasn't bad and others said it was "horrible".

We are headed there in June, 2008 and want to know too!

As usual you will hear both answers. I have stayed at POR four times over the years and have not found it terrible. There are some negatives - unlike the Values there is no defined "line" at the bus stops so you have the possibilities of people cutting in line. People will have a bad experience once with an extra long wait and that ruins it for them forever. I have found this few and far between. Buses stop and POFQ first but if the last stops at POR start filling up then traffic control will have a bus skip the first stops and go there first.

We have had our own car at WDW also and I still prefer Disney transport. You may be able to drive to the parks but then you have to deal with the parking lots and trams to get to the entrance. The lines for the buses get long at closing time in the parks but the parking lots are no pleasure either. First there are long lines to get on a tram - or walk to the car - then drive through a traffic mess to get out and I'm always the one driving. Even if I have to wait in line and stand I find it less stressful to ride the Disney bus.

Bus service at POR is no worse than any other resort.

I think it may depend on when you go. We went to POR in early Oct (regular season I think - around Columbus Day weekend) and had no problem at all.

We went over Spring Break 2006. I remember the buses being crowed a couple of times, but I was always able to find a seat. DS didn't care if he sat down or not. He likes standing on the bus. THE ONLY TIME I was unhappy with the bus service was the day we waited, and we waited, and we waited, and we waited for the DTD-TL bus. I know we waited 40 minutes for one to show up. And when it did, it took us another 40 minutes to get to TL. What was disturbing about that is on the way to DTD we passed TL!! I just felt like saying "hey just drop us off" I think if we had walked we could have been to TL in a third or fourth of the time. That was a horrible experience. Esp when we saw many buses for all the other parks. It really cut into our time we got to spend at TL. That was sad. This trip, I am renting a car for a side trip and I think I will just keep it for the whole week just so when we go to TL we can get there in 10 minutes.

The bus service in general is "challenging" for the guests.

From POR, you will lose time when you travel anywhere but MK, and depending on the circumstances, it can be a significant amount of time.

If it's in the budget, I recommend using your car or renting one.

POFQ and POR share a bus. POFQ guests are picked up first and then POR. I think POR has the worst end of it.

POFQ is my favorite moderate and we have stayed there quite a few times. I have never been disappointed with the bus service.

It's been a few years, we were there October '04 but it was fine. Have also stayed at CSR and Wilderness Lodge. Both times CSR has had the greatest bus service. 5-10 minute waits except one time the wait to DTD was 30 minutes. But POR was fine. Maybe 15 minute waits, never had to stand except on way home. Honestly, service at WL last year was no better then what we got at POR. Plus at WL the bus stopped at GF after getting us so took extra time to get anywhere. I don't remember that POR stopped anywhere after picking us up. I am really considering going back to POR our next tripped. I just loved the atmosphere.

No problems whatsoever in May '06 (including Memorial Day weekend). As you can see, FAR more people have no significant problems than do.

Hi Ya!

I seen that you've stayed the Port Orleans resorts several times.

I was wondering if you could throw some information my way.

We are from Louisiana so I am afraid that the Port Orleans theming might be lost on us but...we've already stayed at the CBR twice and the CSR just doesn't appeal to us. I definitely don't want to downgrade to a value resort.

Right now we're leaning towards Port Orleans Riverside. Probably the mansions section.

Any information or pictures you could share?

Thanks bunches, Lisa

I'm also from LA, and POR does resemble home quite a bit. Because we have 5 in our party we are very limited on moderates to choose from. We had an enjoyable stay there two years ago and are going back in 14 days  . We didn't eat any meals at POR, once you've had real Louisiana cooking, anything else doesn't compare. Building request was key to a good stay last time. Get close to a bus stop.
