Is it closed or do we have an idea when it will be gone? I want to take DD to see mickey and minnie's houses but I fear we will be too late, Feb 1st.

Is it closed

No.

May not close until some time in 2011.

Or... It can close just about any time.

Disney has not made any specific formal timeline announcements.

I'd GUESS... later, rather than sooner.

We hope we can see it one more time with our boys...
We are going Feb 11th-Feb 18th. Our luck it will close Feb 10th.

When we were there last week a CM said to me, "Yeah...we're knocking out the back wall next month" - I took it to mean that they were starting in the vaccant area behind fantasyland (putting in the Ariel ride I assume??) before they were going to start closing current attractions.

According to the latest issue of Orlando Attractions Magazine, Toontown is tentatively scheduled to close January 2010. I hope that they are wrong.

I don't know if this is connected or not but we were attempting to book the behind the steam train tour for June and its not listed as available for May or June. I know that they usually do a lot of this tour at the TOON TOWN station and that is also the area where the trains switch off for the back shops. The CM I spoke with had no idea why they had blocked them out but of course my mind started putting two and two together...

Just think tho...it's going to be so worth it once the new stuff is up, we'll all be sad to have toontown closed , but I can hardly wait for the new area.

From a press release just posted today to WDW Today..

Work on the Fantasyland Expansion at the Magic Kingdom will begin in 2010. We have also heard that The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh attraction will go down for refurbishment in early 2010 to change it’s facade and a few other items, the Walt Disney World Railroad will close for 2-3 months in 2010 to make way for groundbreaking backstage, and Mickey’s Toontown Fair will most likely close permanently in the Fall. Information released today:

Fantasyland expansion – An early-2010 groundbreaking will mark the beginning of a three-year construction project that will result in a vastly expanded Magic Kingdom Fantasyland.

Apparently I didn't realize when they announced the expansion that they were knocking out Toon Town. We'll miss Mickey and Minnies house, Donald's Boat and I don't even want to tell my kids about the Barnstormer. :(

Word is that the Barnstormer will be staying but will be re-themed.
