Is Tony's Really That Bad?

I just got done reading the best and worst post about the different restauraunts. I noticed Tony's mentioned quite a few times on the worst list. I have never eaten there and was looking forward to trying it. Is there anyone out there that had a good experience or would recommend it? Any help is greatly appriciated.

I didn't think it was horrible, but it wasn't very good. I definitely didn't think it was worth the money we spent!

I would't call it gourmet but we enjoyed it. The food was pretty good, as was the service. :

The food won't make you gag, but there are much better dining establishments to spend your money at. Very expensive for what it is. Service nothing to crow about either.

We didn't think it was all that bad when we went. I think we were a little disappointed in the prices but the service and food was good.

We actually enjoyed when we went and had great service. We hadn't eaten there before and despite all the bad reviews we decided to give it a try. We were on the dining plan so the cost wasn't an issue. We had a great time and would return.

Although we read the reviews we've decided that since everyone's tastes are different we'll try them ourselves and decide.

We thought it was good........they had some of the best butternut squash soup I've ever had one visit.
We love getting the seating that looks out onto Main Street too..........

We ate there a couple of years ago before the Christmas party. I really enjoyed the pork dish I had (can't remember the name), and our server was terrific. I'd go there, again.

I will say that we have eaten at Tony's twice and the lunch was definately better. Dinner was nothing to write home about and pretty pricey, like others have stated. Lunch however was very pleasant.

We did not like Tony's at all and won't be back. We are a little spoiled though being N.Y.'ers with all the great Italian food around here. For some reason, this just did not taste like any kind of Italian I have ever had. And the prices were ridiculous. We don't pay that price for the finest Italian restaraunts around here. DH had chicken parm that was horrible.

I guess taste is areally subjective thing, but keep this in mind (unless my logic is totally screwy) WDW wouldnt keep a crappy restaurant on its property at all, much less in such a prime location. If they recieved alot of complaints about the FOOD (notice I didnt say price), there would be changes made, dont you think? I would imagine that WDW would want to keep their dining establisments busy

I went for the first time in Oct for dinner. I heard all the reviews but decided to try for myself.

Most complained about the prices for what you get, ESPECIALLY the Spaghetti for $18.99. Avoid the Spaghetti since it's so expensive.

When I went I got the NY Strip Steak and it was delicious.

My girls got the pizza and the kid's Spaghetti and meatball and they both loved their food.

I really have no complaints except that we had to pay for the breadsticks, and because of the dining plan, we got the dessert sampler instead of whatever we wanted from the menu.

We had a light lunch there (salad, soup, 1/2 sandwich combo type stuff) and thought it was very good, and not too expensive for what we had. The service, however, was horrible - very slow - and the place was practically empty so there was no excuse. It was a good place to go with my parents (63 yo) because it was quiet and we hopped on the train after lunch to avoid a long walk back to Fantasyland.

DF and I have eaten there the last 2 trips that we have taken. Of course, we only go for lunch (we don't eat dinner, usually just a late lunch) but we both really liked it. The prices are a lot better at lunch than they are for dinner. We try to go there at least once, as the minestrone soup is just great!

On the surface, your logic makes sense. However, to offer a rebuttal, turn your point 180 degrees, and I'd have no problem showing that Disney has a long history of taking dining that is working and screwing it up, the menu at O'Hana's being the best recent example.

My own perception of Tony's is that it is the classic "tourist trap" restaurant, a not particularly good but highly visible dining spot in a heavy traffic location. It is entirely possible that a majority of people who eat there are less than impressed, and while not filing a "formal complaint," simply don't return. And are readily replaced by the next wave of "tourists" walking down Main Street. In other words, on a spreadsheet, the restaurant looks like it's doing just fine, so Disney doesn't see any need to change it.

:thumbsup2 Totally agree about the butternut squash soup. YUMMY!!!! We've eaten there twice and both times have enjoyed our meal both in food quality and service. DD is a big Lady and the Tramp fan so it really makes her day.

We'll be eating there for the first time on 2/4. On one of the other boards there was a tip to make a reservation there about 15 - 20 minutes before one of the parades starts as the outside seating is a great vantage point to watch the parade while you eat lunch.

We've eaten at Tony's several times over the years, and while it isn't a place we make a point of dining at each trip, we have always enjoyed ourselves.
