OK. I have this situation to tell about and I want to know what you think.
We just got back 2 days ago from a week stay.
We were on the dining plan. For those of you who don't know they give you a few different bills. They have the bill with the prices on it that you sign for, and they have the bill with all $0 that you keep.
But then they also have the adult bills separate from the kids bills.
So mostly we would leave the table service restaurants with 2 bills. Ours around $60 and the kids around $30 but ours all read $0
I really wanted to pay attention to what we were spending on food to decide if I would use the dining plan in the future.
So at each restaurant we would write the price onto our copy and bring it back with us to the room and stick it with our stash of receipts to look at later.

Well, this one particular night, it was semi late for our family......the kids were READY for bed..........ok, past ready.
We got the 2 bills. The adults for $57 and the kids for $53..........WHAT $53???????
The kids meals were $7.49, which included the drink, appetizer, entrée and desert. We ordered my son an extra side salad too...........ok add on the tax and add on the tip...........it should not have been $53!!!!
This was the first time the bill was not itemized also!

I wanted to wait for our waiter and question the bill, but my husband pressed on me that the kids needed to go, and did it really matter? It was still the same price for us, we pre paid!!

My question is though, is this guy upping the bill because his tip is a % of the bill??!!!
I was blown away, I really think that is what is going on!
I think it is not everywhere, and not everyone........but some dishonest, smart people are taking advantage of the dining plan!!!

What do you think??
I didn't keep the reciepts........should I contact someone to take a look????

Maybe he made a mistake? Maybe he is "taking advantage"

Either case it is not going to change the outcome...I say just be glad you did not have to pay the bill!

i'm going to take a guess as to what happened here...

you said that most of your bills were around $60 and $30 for a total of approximately $90...

what this waiter may have done is put one child and one adult on each slip, for a total of $106, which would include the extra salad ($8, plus tax/tip, for a total of $11) which makes the discrepancy only about $5...

that's my $.02 on the subject :)

I just replied on your other post but...where I work at WDW, our computer system does the same thing. I guess its a glitch in the system. The managers don't know how to fix it. If you add both receipts together, that is what you would have paid and thats what the gratuity is based on.

if your waiter is trying to rip off disney then alot of them have learned that trick because my family was there in april an on a few different days are DDP was charged more than $60 for 2 kids one meal they put down $100 for 2 kids meals I dont really know how that works out but I hope it doesnt hurt the dining plan in the end.

So do they now seperate the childs credits from the adults credits? I'm a little confused because last time they were all lumped together and I only remeber getting one bill?

If both totals added together were too much then there may be a problem. :confused3 Yes, the adult and child credits for table service are separate and you will sign two receipts for the server.

I don't get it....

Your card would only have a certain amount of credits on it....

If the bill was higher than your credits allowed....
wouldn't it just be on your resort bill....or CC if used:confused3

i think the op is saying that the server put "extras" on their check that he didn't actually serve, but were w/in the limits of the dining plan... or maybe not?

I think there's a certain amount of play that restaurants have with billing. When we went to Spoodles last year, my son (who ate from the adult menu) ordered the steak with sweet potato fries. However, he asked to have regular fries instead. Our meal took a long time to get to the table, so the waitress offered a complimentary cappucino as compensation. When I received the itemized bill, we were "charged" for both items but they were added in as part of our dining plan.

We ate at Coral Reef last October. It was our first meal on the DDP, and all TS credits were still pooled for adults and children. Our party was 2 adults and 2 children. We all ordered appetizer, entree, dessert, and drink off of the appropriate menu. I had read on the DISboards to be sure to check your receipt for credit balance, as there had been some issues w/ too many credits being deducted.

Anyway, when I looked at our receipt, I saw about 3-4 items that we did not order on there in addition to what we did order. It was all "zeroed" out with the DDP and we had the correct number of credits left. All I could figure was that they somehow added those to get a bigger tip, because each item came up to be around $6 on the bill.

I started to say something, but the service was so incredibly slow there anyway that we just left it.

Our service was also very slow, and we did leave it.
I know it was 2 checks, one for the adults and one for the kids.
I know they were each about $5 different.
I have this going on another board and I think the more I read about it happening all over the place the more we know that some of these people have figured out how to up their tips.
I think perhaps that is why Disney may be changing over for the dining plan to not include the tips.

The way I look at it is, if the waiter knew I was paying in cash, he probably would make sure not to add things on that I didnt order.
In some cases they have been adding on a whole extra meal to the check but only using the right number of TS credits.

In the park that I work as a server, we have had about a half dozen people fired in the past few months for doing just that. One situation was along the lines of adding a specialty drink ($6ish) to each person, EVERY time a ddp came in. It amounted to anywhere from 60-150 a day in over billing and 9-24 or so (rounding off) in extra gratuity for the server. It's a dangerous practice and I wish that you had mentioned it to the manager. The bill in my location would have really shocked you though. Kids meals come up as $4 each (even though they are around 10 with tax and tip) because the computer only grabs the entree portion of the meal, no drink, apps, dessert, etc. on the kids. All of that is added onto the adults portion.
