Is this True? Re: Crowds

Great, now you've got me worried. We're going Oct. 14. Please, someone reassure me that we'll have a great time and that crowds won't be bad :)

Rob

You'll have a great time. Don't worry. All I said was that late September is usually better than October in terms of crowds, but I didn't say October was the worst time ever. It's not New Year's Eve, in other words. There are all kinds of different levels of crowds. Some are horrendous and some are manageable.

But realistically, the first couple of weeks of October - until after Columbus Day passes - are generally more crowded at DLR. There are all kinds of things happening in October that make the crowds a little heavier, not the least of which are various school breaks and the HalloweenTime season itself. Then, after Columbus Day things quiet down a bit and then it gets busy again right before Halloween, according to the info I've heard from various folks on here.

Plus, World of Color has increased crowds in both parks since June, and since it is continuing on through Fall, there is that to consider too.

So you will have a great time and it won't be horrendous, but it would be totally unrealistic and untrue to tell you that it won't be crowded at all. Just based on what it was like in 2009 and in 2008 in October, and based on the reports of crowds already increasing this year, I think it's safe to say that there will be a 'healthy' attendance level that weekend (Thursday might be a bit better than Friday would be) but with proper planning and preparation, you will be fine!:thumbsup2

It is always startling when you encounter a CM who seems to be having a bad day or is just not that friendly - because the majority of them are sooooo friendly. Some of them love to talk with guests - on the phone or in person - and you can tell how much they love their jobs. Every now and then I run into one who seems un-Disneylike. Not horrible people, but just more 'real world-like' than Disney-like, if that makes any sense!

Last week when I phoned to ask about making dinner reservations, I managed to get some assistance from a very lovely person who used to work as 'a plaid' - it was cool to hear about who he had met, and to hear that so many celebrities feel better without 'the plaids' - he was really, really friendly, and so Disney-like.

I received really really good service from an Australian worker today at our local Starbucks and oh my gosh - it so totally reminded me of Disney and surrounding area!

Most Disney workers are gems, and it shows... :goodvibes

The one Disney worker who whacked me in the arm (by accident) with his stupid lightstick 'paving the way' for others to see was perhaps a little off from the norm. :rotfl2:

What are they doing for the 55th Anniversary? All I heard about was the signing happy birthday thing, but they only did that on the actual day in July- what else is going on?
All we saw last week related to the 55th was the Main Street cinema was showing clips from DL's first day and early years. And the area in front of Abe Lincoln has some special displays.

Whats "a plaid"? Sounds weird:confused:

A 'plaid' is a Disneyland cast member who is wearing a plaid jacket, and sometimes they are the ones 'discreetly' taking famous celebrities around the parks.

I have seen many, many 'plaids' and not one celebrity with them, so I assume 'the plaids' have other jobs as well. :)
