Is this the norm?

I will say that I know of a lot of bridal showers where the "bride" is kind of shown off. That is actually fairly common where I come from. If I was to marry my boyfriend I feel certain the women at his mom's church would have a shower for me. They do it as a sign of friendship to the mother and it is not really a bid deal. Yep the bride (and normally her maid of honor) feel uncomfortable, but if you don't do it you would just upset the family and it isn't worth that!

Can't say. We just have one big deaf fellowship and the whole group and any other deaf people who want to join us come and enjoy as well. Small community, deaf people.

Ok, I want to play Ann Landers for a while. :-)

My answer: You shouldn't have gotten the invitation to the baby shower unless you were a close family friend. You should be under no obligation to attend a baby shower for someone practically a stranger to you. I find the fact that your friend invited you to be odd.

I hope my .02 doesn't offend anyone. :-)
