Is this the future of Extra Magic Hours?

I can't see this...it's a major marketing tool for staying on site. I can't imagine they'd prioritize DVC over on-site resort stays.

Ironically, I think I might be more inclined to pay an extra price to get EMH as opposed to having them simply as a result of where I stayed. Why? Because EMH now seems to make the parks more crowded and I think it wouldn't be nearly as bad if you had to pay extra for it. Of course I could be wrong, but right now I use EMH to schedule where NOT to go. (if it's an EMH park, I avoid it that day and go there the following day as it's less busy)

We used to have to pay for EMH. I, for one, don't want to have to pay for them again!! Staying on property is expensive enough!

I personally think the DVC after hours party was probably for 2 reasons.
1. As others have said to for Disney to use in promotional info for selling DVC (you have to have/had perks in order to advertise them)

2. To use DVC members as guinea pigs to test an after hours event like this-then they can see if/where improvement is needed before they offer a similar event to groups (or individuals) who are actually paying. I mean if the pool party wasn't that great DVC members can't really complain as it was complementary wheras if it was a paid event and didn't go so well people would be demanding their money back. I know I read DVC members who attended got surveys emailed to them to rate the pool party.

I could see them doing away with free EMH and going to a pay version but not taking it away from resort guests and only giving it (for free) to DVC members

The Disney DVC real eastate bubble will soon break, It may have started with the poly 2k a room nights

DVC only events, hard ticket after hours events, and EMH can all coexist without any problems. I think you'll see more DVC only after hours events in the parks but they won't replace EHM, they will augment them. You'll also see an increase in events like Harambe Nights.

Due to the success of harambe nights I'm really surprised it didn't return this year.

My guess is that between the Avatar and the Rivers of Light show construction they don't want to hold anything after hours in AK at the moment to allow the crews to work through the night. I think once that is done, or at least further along, you'll see it return in some form or another.

I know but they had construction last year as well and Harambe is even better now that the marketplace is open.

True, it is only a guess. Maybe the construction schedule was made more aggressive so they decided to postpone it. It really did appear to be a success from the outside so they must have had some reason.
