Is This Stealing?

It is stealing to ask for a cup for water and then get soda because you paid for nothing. DH and I also share a drink when we go through the drive-thru. So I'm suppose to buy a second drink then too? I kiss my DH so no I don't worry about it being gross. I don't think we have ever gotten a refill so the two of us only drink the one soda. Yes I would still do it if I was sitting next to the manager because we paid for the soda and we drank only that soda.

The Splenda, the sugar packets, the mini creamers, the itty bitty stirrers, napkins and oh no, the STRAWS! Oh where will it end????? :faint:

Wow, you are a seasoned theif. It must have been the influence of your granny. Those sweet old ladies are always the most evil. Mine is teaching me how to guilt people into giving me what I want.

"One for the road" is certainly not stealing, geez. Whenever we are on a road trip DH will ask whatever restaurant we are at for a refill in a to go cup. No one has ever so much as looked at him weird for the request. And sometimes... yes, sometimes when we are in the car, I will take a sip of his free refill.

If you think THAT's bad, once we were at a restaurant that had a sunday brunch buffet. I was not in the mood for brunch so I ordered something off the menu. Well when DH got to dessert he got something from the buffet that looked so yummy. I admit it, I had a bite of it without paying for the buffet.

And then there was the time we went to the local diner that happens to have a salad bar. I didn't get the salad bar with my meal but my friend did. I asked her to bring me a sesame breadstick from the salad bar and she did. I didn't pay for the salad bar though!

There, all of my skeletons are out of the closet. I think I am going to list all of my condiments on ebay and then donate the proceeds to charity.

Seriously though, DH and I share drinks all the time. We discovered that when we went out, I would take 3 sips and throw the rest out. He always refills his drink at least once. So now I take my 3 sips from his drink instead of buying my own and throwing it out. We also share meals a lot when we go out too. SOMETIMES we even will get the "big size" of a fast food meal and split it in half!!!! I know that that extra $.39 for the fries are not MEANT to be shared and that they would prefer that you buy two meals. I do think I'm more likely to go to hell for eating that crap in the first place than sharing it so we don't consume so many calories though.

You dont refill, so that's not the issue. Nothing wrong with what your doing.

OK, I admit it. I've been known to pocket a few of the blue packs of sweetener for later use while I'm out and about. I can't stand the pink stuff or yellow stuff and I keep forgetting to keep a stash of blue stuff in my purse.

Please, please don't hurt me, I'll try to do better from now on! :teeth:

DH and I wouldn't share refillable drinks b/c we drink different things. We so share a soda sometimes but not anywhere where refills are involved.

I'm going to hell....when I take my kids to fast food...we usually split 3 drinks between the six of us and I usually refill mine as I'm about to walk out the door...

I got sick and tired of throwing away full sodas for each of the kids because each only took 2 or 3 sips...

well, obviously your morals are out of whack. i hope someone can save you.

I don't think that it's an unforgivable sin. I'm not going to do it, but I'm not going to think ill of others who do it.

I do order water at full service restaurants most of time. When I'm pregnant and DH orders something with caffeine that I really love, I'll sometimes take a few small sips to satisfy my taste for it. I have wondered what our server would think if he saw me sharing, but it doesn't worry me enough to stop.

My hubby has always said, if we can't afford to all get our own drink, we shouldn't be going out to eat anyways.

zurgswife, our whole family will go to hell with you, since we usually get a large drink and share it among 4 people.

OMG... I just thought of another thing.... I ask for free cups of water too! Now, I'm really condemned to hell!

What about sharing entrees when you're on the dining plan? OMG!!!! Zeus smite me with thunderbolts!

Yes.

If two people can share a refillable cup why not ten?
Should you be able to share a plate at an all-you-can-eat buffet?

Where do you draw the line?

Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria.

I agree with pretty much everyone else - nothing wrong with sharing EXCEPT if you are refilling. Then you are getting the equivalent of two drinks and should pay accordingly. My kids shared all the time before they were old enough to drink a whole soda. Now that they drink a whole one, we buy them each one.

I don't think that is what the OP is talking about .....you are sharing what you ACTUALLY paid for.

wait, did I miss it? Is there some written rule - only one person per drink? If so then I should get in trouble for DH and I ordering a large instead of two mediums.

We all know that drinks have the highest mark-up of all fast food items. I mean is it really $2.00 for a small Coke? If anyone is going to hell its the owners of establishments that grossly overcharge for 10 cents worth of drink. And they know it too b/c they offer free refills. Yup, I went there. ;)

This is all a moo point anyway (you know, the opinion of a cow). I don't think many people (if any) on this thread buy drinks knowing they can get unlimited refills to deliberately buck the system. But if it was such a problem, the industry would just put signs up prohibiting so.

If it's a refillable drink, though, who is anyone REALLY hurting? I mean REALLY think about it. It's refillable. If one person buys the drink, and refills it twice the person has just had three people's worth of drinks. But say the two people share one drink, refill it once, the two people have had two people's worth of drinks. So is the person who refill his/her cup three times stealing? :teeth:

Do you do the same thing at a sit down establishment?

This is where the movie theaters got smart.

They charge for the cup and the drink is free.

Think I'm making it up? Wanted a cup of water--they asked me what size? I said medium. They promptly charged me $3 or whatever it was. No I didn't want to pay for the water. But they had to charge me for the cup  .
