Is this ridiculous, or what?

My friend, her husband and kids and my family go to our local Friendly's Restaurant. She has a coupon to use and so do I. The coupon says on it, "Limit one per visit." With the coupons in mind, we get seperate checks for each family. As we often do with a group as large as ours was, we asked that 2 tables be pushed together. We put the kids at one end and adults at the other. When we go to pay our seperate checks we are told that we can only use one coupon per table and since we pushed the tables together it is considered one table. I figure the waitress is new and afraid of breaking the rules so I ask to speak with the manager. The manager is a 40 something, mature looking woman. She tells us that the waitress was correct and the policy is one coupon per table. I explain how we are 2 seperate families and that we only pushed the 2 tables together so we can better tend to the children while still enjoying adult conversation. She is stands her ground and refuses to honor both coupons. I say to her, "If we pushed the tables apart will you honor each of our coupons?" She answers, "Yes." So I push the tables apart by about an inch or two, she is satisfied and we each get to use our coupons.

Is it me or is this just plain crazy? I understand about company policy but was one inch of air space worth causing the upset of two paying parties? Whatever happened to customer satisfaction?

That is utterly ridiculous and a total waste of everyone's time

But at least you got to use your coupon :)

Since, you approached the manager and got this response, I would write a letter to the district manager. What a stupid way to treat customers!

TC:cool:

Ridiculous on the manager's part. If you had separate checks they should have allowed you to use two coupons. Sounds like she knew she was botching it and allowed you to move the tables apart in an attempt to save face.

I was thinking that too.

ummm...the name of this restaurant is "Friendly's"?? I think I'd take them off my list of places to eat!

ROFLMBO!!!! That takes the cake!
Definitely write a letter to upper management.

Just another example of common sense going out the window!

Ah.. when people follow the rules down to the penny.. sad but I do agree the manager was trying to save face while still trying to please the customer

good way to lose a business, we lost our friendlys in Knoxville because of poor customer service, ppl just got tired of it real quick
