Hope I'm posting in the right section......AND hope there's a picture attached.
:lmao:

Going away for a quick weekend getaway. Read on another older post that "whatever you can fit into a quart size bag...each item being 3.5 oz or less.....is acceptable". So .....because I'm paranoid lol.....I want to be SURE this is going to be ok.....

******* see post #5 for picture******

That pink container is a hair product that I can't live without. The entire container is 3.4 oz......

Your thoughts please? TIA:worship:

You can't post a pic directly, you have to post it to a photo sharing site (like photobucket) and link it.

It has to be a regular quart size ziploc bag - the kind you buy at the grocery store near the aluminum foil and the plastic wrap. Do not try to use a fancier bag that is advertized as quart sized.

Each container must be clearly marked as 3.4 oz or less. It can not be larger container that is only half full.

You can put as many items in the bag as you'd like, but the bag must close completely. You could fill it with bottles of the same shampoo if you want, as long as the top is fully zipped.

Each ticketed passenger is allowed one and only one quart sized bag.

Everything that does not hold it's shape outside of it's container must go in the bag. That includes mascara, liquid foundation, lipgloss, etc.

I went online to Vera Bradley's website and ordered a 3-1-1 compliant bag there. Can I use that?

Probably not. It depends on the agent you get and how strict they are. If they decide you can't use it, they will throw all of your stuff away. I would just use a regular ziploc bag.

Actually, that bag looks smaller than quart size to me. From the way the pink bottle had to go in at an angle, that bag looks like a sandwich size bag. I pulled out a quart size bag, and that pink bottle would have to be pretty tall for it to have to go in at an angle. ( I could fit a 3.25 oz tube of lotion in the quart size bag without it having to go at an angle.)

I think the bedhead bottle could go vertical but it's running into the bottles at the bottom. Bet the op could fit way more with a bit of juggling. :)

We just came home a few hours ago, and I had posted a question regarding the quart bag.. we used that exact Ziploc baggie and had NO issues! And yes, mine was stuffed, and I had a full sized deodorant in there, it was a Secret solid, only 2.7oz.

This was our very first trip flying with carryons only. It worked fine.

For future reference, if an item taken out of its container can hold it's own shape, (i.e. Secret Solid deodorant) it is not considered a gel or liquid and does not need to go into a 3-1-1 bag.

This isn't correct. If it's a quart sized bag, it's okay. It doesn't have to be an actual Ziploc bag.

That said, for the price of a Vera Bradley 311 bag, you could have purchased enough Ziploc bags for many years of flights.

If the TSA was always consistant, I would agree with you. The problem is, if the size isn't clearly marked, the TSA agent could very well decide that they don't think it's quart sized. It was happening a lot a few years ago when they first started making those bags. Maybe they're trained better now, but I wouldn't rely on it.

As of a couple months ago, you are correct, they aren't always consistent nor are they better able to gauge size of bags; they did not use a ruler when requested. An Airport Security Screener wanted to confiscate all the contents, not just the liquids, of her clear makeup bag. After getting a supervisor involved, she was permitted to transfer everything into a quart sized Baggie. BTW, the Baggie was obviously larger than the zipper bag when side-by-side.

Yes you can use it. I fly many days per week As long as you pull the bag out of your carryon, place it in the tray with your shoes, etc.
You will be just fine.
