I love to try new dining experiences at Disney. But the cost of doing the deluxe plan for 10 days for a family of 5 is really high. So I got to thinking last night, what if we did a package with deluxe dining for 5 nights and then a room only ressie for the last 4 nights.

I was thinking as long as we did the package section of our trip first, we would be able to have our tickets taken off our cards so then we could upgrade them to the days we need when we get there and then we would still have tickets for the whole trip and then would only pay for dining out of pocket for the room only portion.

Am I correct in thinking that the dining credits would be good for 6 days total if you got the deluxe dining for 5 nights right? Meaning if I checked in on the 17th for 5 nights of deluxe dining I would be able to use those credits through midnight on the 22nd, right?

Thanks for the help! I am just brainstorming ideas for our next trip. We usually get the regular dining plan, but then end up paying for a few meals out of pocket, so I thought this might be a better option for us. Theoritically, giving us an additional 6 TS meals if we wanted.

You are quite correct. Your dining credits are valid through midnight following you check-out day, so you effectively get (nights + 1) days to use your credits.

There's no need to separate the tickets off of the cards, however. Even if the room reservation is over, your old KTTW cards will still have valid tickets on them -- and I prefer the plastic cards to the "paper" tickets. You will need your new KTTW cards handy for things like EMH, however.
