Is this okay?

I'm planning a large family trip for WDW Jan 2017. I talked to my parents and they said they would either stay at my Uncle's timeshare with him or not be able to afford to go (or so I understood).
I then rented points from a DVC Member for my inlaws, sister and my family. Talked to my parents today and my mom said she never said that. Now I feel terrible for jumping the gun without her. She said about renting one of the campsites as my parents really love camping and it is a cheaper avenue.

My question is this, if the weather is bad (cold, rainy, whatever), would it be unethical to extend an invitation to my parents to bunk with us (they're 67 and 63 and will likely be tent camping)?

I don't want to cancel our reservation because they aren't 100% sure what they are doing yet, but I don't want to leave them out in the cold either. Ugh. Anyone have any advice?

What is the occupancy of the DVC unit you have rented?

If you go above listed occupancy and are discovered, it is a violation of your contract. The member you rented from is liable for violations of resort policy by you, and exceeding occupancy is a violation. Disney may also evict you from the unit.

Have them rent their own points if they are worried about the weather in January.

Occupancy rules are the rules. If they are staying in your room they need to be on the reservation. Just remember you are renting points from a timeshare owner-- you don't want to put them in a bad spot, especially if it's someone that you know.

That answers that. It would be above maximum occupancy. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that my Uncle goes and decides to take them as guests like he mentioned. Thank you!

No, I certainly would not want to. I would feel so guilty going to a warm cozy room and sending them out in the rain. Hopefully we can figure something out. I am exceedingly grateful to the person who rented us points and wouldn't do anything to jeopardize her contract. Thank you for your reply.

I peeked at your previous posts. It looks like you are renting a 2BR at SSR. If you upgrade to a Tree House (sleeps 9 instead of 8) would you still be over occupancy? Does your DVC member still have points? They could just stay with you and not rent a campsite.

Unfortunately we would need a 3 bdrm. I have a family of 6 (but one is an infant), plus my sister, plus my MIL & FIL.

I just called my sister to talk to her about it and she told me not to worry. If they stayed with our Uncle, they'd be off site anyway so should they choose to go, we can always find them something that way.

I was just feeling like I unintentionally left my parents out and didn't want to, but I think we have it under control.

Someone above said you are renting a 2br villa. Is that correct? If so, the limit is eight, I believe, plus a child under three. That would be your five (plus infant), your sister, MIL, and FIL. That makes eight plus the infant which would be okay if it's a 2 br.

The nights and early mornings in January can get very cold. And if it's raining too, I think that would make tent camping pretty miserable. If they gave a large tent that will fit a heater, the tent diets do have hook ups. Some people rent campers or those pop up tent trailers. I've heard they are delivered by rental company to the site. Or what about getting a room in a value resort?

If you are in a two bedroom at SSR, then I think you're OK, unless I'm misunderstanding something. The occupancy is 8, plus one child under three. Sounds like that's what you'd have. Obviously, it'll be a little tight, but you won't be breaking any rules.

But she has her family (5 plus an infant), her sister, and her in-laws so she is already at 8 in her DVC. Adding her parents would be 2 more people. I know how she feels though. I'm a guilt rider myself. Always the one in charge of planning and it is sometimes an impossible task. Sounds like her sister is helping to ease things though. Good luck to the OP.

The way she phrased it was "family of 6, but one is an infant," so I interpreted that as 5 persons over three, one person under three.

Discounting the baby, they have a family of 5, sister and two inlaws, that is 7 persons over age 3. Add the parents to that and it's 9 persons over 3. They would have a party of 10 but the baby doesn't count toward room occupancy. If they have a room with a capacity of 9, not 8, they can all stay in the same room.
