So I have been going to one to get my b12 shots

But given I am obviously not a emergency so the last thing I expect is for them to get me in so quickly

I used to go to one that I would wait hrs to be seen or it felt that way anyway

As a nurse would you try to get a will patient out quickly so they don’t get sick or take care of the sick

I get the sick need to see the doctor I just need to see a nurse because I am too chicken to give myself the shot

I am not sure what you are asking here. Are you asking is it normal to have to have a long wait at an urgent care?

Why are you not going to your regular doctors office to get the B12 shots? Can't you make an appointment with the nurse there to get your shot?

A lot of walk in clinics are diversifying to other services like vitamin infusion.

The clinics are operated by nurse practitioners or doctors.

I think it's a good thing to keep the doctors offices open for those requiring more care.

It’s due to lack of transportation that I am going to a urgent care and not a doctors office

Find it strange that the sick have to wait longer then me I would think it is the other way around

We don't have walk in clinics in my town. You either have to go to the ER or drive an hour away. This would be something that you would make a nurse appointment at your regular doctors office for.

The really sick need to be seem by a doctor and if a doctor isn't available they have to wait. The nurse giving you a shot is a quick in & out.

In some cases you can take Vit B12 pills, too. (I do myself.) That’s even easier.

But as a nurse, our days are broken up into:

Must do (highest priority)
Should do (next highest priority)
Could do (lowest priority)

That’s a way of prioritizing care that you need to give to lots of people waiting.

Unfortunately on some days, your shot won’t be the highest priority so you’ll have to wait. Other days may be slower and they’ll get you in sooner. It all depends on who’s there. I‘d try to go as early as possible, before it gets super busy. Middle of the day is probably going to be a long wait.

I highly expect that, that is why I bring something to do and wait and go when I can sit in a waiting room for the rest of the day

Urgent care where you are may mean something different. Here they are facilities that are a step between walk-in clinics and emergency rooms. They are intended for ambulatory patients or those transported by EMS with active injury/illness needing diagnosis and often procedures, then transfer on to other facilities for inpatient care if needed. The care is triaged like a hospital emergency room. They don't do well-care or routine examinations. Most likely a person would go to a pharmacist for an injection if they couldn't get it done at their own family doctor's office and the wait there would be relatively short compared to an actual medical facility.

I would say it is most likely what someone above said - you didn't need to a see a doctor, so you were a quick in and out.

I would be thankful and not question why I didn't have to wait in a waiting room full of sick people to get my shot.

I am forever thankful they will do it even even better that it is normally quick

I think our urgent care is pretty much based on "first come, first served." You sign in and they go down the list. There is no triage of patients. (At a true emergency room, I think the sickest would be seen first.)

We scheduled our COVID boosters at a local urgent care. We had an appointment time, so I thought it'd be a quick in-and-out, but when we arrived, they just put us on the list of people waiting to be seen. The waiting room was full, so it took a lot of time and we were there with people who were actually sick. I will not make the same mistake twice. I hope there's another place where you can get your injections.

Do pharmacists not do this in the States? :confused3 They are responsible for practically all injections and vaccine administration here.
