Is this just a weird idea?

I was doing some pricing for my reception. After looking at several options, it seems that it would be quite a bit cheaper to buy everyone's dinning plan for the length of their trip then it would be to hold a rehearsal dinner and a reception. It at most would be 18 adults, but DF and I (but we're going to be on the Deluxe Dining Plan already)

I would send out a letter to each room and let them know how it would work. That they'd be able to get a quick service lunch without us each day of their trip, and how the table services would work. I'd also try to call and/or email the restaurants we planned on eating at to let them know, who I'd like for it to work. That I'd put all the tips on one card, but use the dining plan from each room. I know it could get really complicated with so many first time Disney visitors going, but I'm close to many of them, and I think the only problem I may run into is that DF family all drink wine and mixed drinks (my family doesn't) and most of our friends don't drink much (if at all), so I figured out how to handle that yet.

Thanks.

I personally wouldn't do that and I don't think it is a good idea. I think it would cost a lot more money to do that than to have a reception and rehearsal dinner. Also, what if someone uses their credits incorrectly and when they get to your reception dinner they don't have any. So many things could go wrong and everyone will be calling you and you will not have a moments peace. Also, I don't see how you would pay for everyone's dining plan without paying for their room and tickets too since it is a package unless you just handed everyone the money for the dining plan. Also, I don't think any restaurant will be able to charge your card for tips only etc. if you are not there. This seems SO complicated.

If you have 18 adults it would cost over 4k to buy them the dining plan for a week... not sure how you are doing the math but maybe if you shared that we could get an idea if it would actually be cheaper.

At our rehearsal dinner we paid for everything EXCEPT alcohol. We mostly mentioned it to everyone and the servers knew and brought a separate bill to any tables that had alcohol.

For our escape we had 19 ppl - 2 kids the rest adults. Our dinner was at Narcoossee's and we paid for all drinks - more than half had alcohol and our total bill was under $1500. Unless you're doing Victoria and Albert's I can't figure out how you'd spend much more. Make sure you get the TIW card and save $$ that way!
