Is this in bad taste????

My fiance's "big" gift this year is new Maui Jim sunglasses. The trouble is, I'm not sure what style he would prefer. I bought a pair at Sunglass Hut, and then another pair at Costco.

I am going to return one, but I am not sure which one. Would it be OK to wrap both in the same box and just ask him which one he prefers when he opens the box on Chirstmas morning?

I don't think you should put both of them in the box...I think you should choose the one you think will make him happiest.

It's not in good taste to "give" him both and then take one back.

If you put both in the box, put a silly sign on top of them saying "now, choose ONE." Otherwise, wrap the one you think he'll like the best, and then after he opens it tell him that you have a different pair in case he prefers those. Then return what he doesn't choose after Christmas.

Wrap one. Then, later on Christmas let him know he does have a choice. I think it would deflate his balloon thinking he gets two pairs.

What an awesome gift! He will love them. I would actually wrap both and put a note on the outside that he should choose one.

Normally I would say make a choice and take one back now, but I would hate for you to spend that kind of money on expensive sunglasses and then have your fiance not like them. And who knows whether other selections would be available after the holidays.

And really, it's not like this is your MIL, it's your fiance.' I am sure he will not be offended with whatever you choose to do.

I vote for giving him both and letting him choose. But only because it's your fiancée (or if it were your spouse) - anyone else and I would just pick one.

So long as you let him know before he opens the package that he can only keep one pair, I'd say give him both.

How about this: you take a picture of each pair and then wrap them separately. When you are ready to give him his gift, pull out both pictures and ask which pair he likes better. Whichever he chooses, you pull out that box and give it to him. He gets the pair he likes best without you having to actually take one back from him.
