DH and I have just booked a week in Oct 03, more or less on a whim. I had some AA vouchers which covered most of the cost of the flight, so it is just accomm. etc
We normally go just for a week (I am a college lecturer so am limited to holidays) but I would really like to go for a bit longer. So.....I wondered about going for a fortnight in Aug 2004. we have gone in the summer before so I know about the weather and the crowds. Should I go with this (I have a very good deal on a vila rental from a friend) or stick to single weeks possibly May and Oct 2004?
Advice please!!

I cannot advise you of the financial situation.

Personally going for a week is not worth it , however, May and October are ideal times to visit, we are taking our 9th trip this coming May.

Our last trip was last August, to be honest it was too hot for us although having a villa was a help. We only went this time of the year because of the school holidays, it was also very crowded.

My advice would be to avoid August adn go for a fortnight either in May or October.

Fiona, I also work in education so know how difficult it is. I personally would go in august, we didnt find the heat or humidity too bad.Personally as echoed a week really isnt enough, but if this is all you can afford then its better than nothing.
Were going again in May of this year(3 weeks), as the only thing that tainted our last visit was the rain, so were hopeing for some better weather this time!.
There are alot of people on here who have been, and im right in thinking Janice and Shirley have had a holiday in May, might be worth asking them what may is like so you get a better picture.

JohnnySharp : Yes I'd love to go for two weeks in Oct/May but I think my employer and my classes might see it otherwise!!

Signtalker : I think it will be August, I don't mind the humidity too much but I get a bit scared at the torrential rain and thunderstorms. Wimp eh!!!

I must admit, having done lots of one week trips in the past I quite enjoy the experience. Ideally I'd like to go for much longer (6 months!!!??) but the mortgage has to be paid! I suppose we are lucky it just being the two of us that we can (just about) afford the double whammy of air fares!!

As someone once said, better one week than none at all!
(personally I'd go for a weekend if I could!):p :p

One week's better than nothing. We are going in October too, there seem's to be quite a few UK Dis members out there at that time :D

Going for a week at a quieter time is in my experience as rewarding as going for two weeks at a busy time. You appreciate the quiet when you are there and it can put you off going at a busier time. Because the weather is more tolerable it makes touring the parks more pleasant.

I however wouldn't hesitate to do either of your options if that was all that was available, but it is psychologically nice to go in May knowing that you'll be back in October!

On a personal note, I have been having shorter holidays the last couple of years - due to hospital annual leave being difficult to organise - however, I now feel I need more than a week on my next holiday... sometimes you feel you are just settling in when your time is up.

Fiona, fair enough go for it!

Like you say better to go than not go at all..

As far as the heat and humidity go if there is just the two of you it is easier to cope.

We have a 6 year old boy who is Autistic so pushing the stroller around does take it's toll, consequently we tend to visit the parks in short bursts rather than stick around for the day, everybody is different though aren't they?
With our son in mind we have to think about things very carefully so for us August would just be too hot, 6 weeks off from school is a long time to fill which is why we went that time of the year.

Most of my time is spent driving the wife and son around and playing in the pool at our rented villa!

Another thing about the heat is that 12 years ago on our honeymoon Julie got sunstroke on Miami Beach and was taken to hospital, mind you this was the middle of June.......hence until last year most of our visits have been May/October time.

All this probably makes you wonder why we go but we just love it there and never want to go anywhere else, despite the humidity it's great being able to walk around in shorts and t-shirts.
Mortgage, we have one too...a big one. Stilll who cares, this May we are off to Orlando......................

We've only ever been to WDW in August, and never had too many problems with heat or humidity. Just so long as you take it easy in the afternoons, and have some time out breaks to ensure you don't use all your energy in the first couple of days, I don't think it is a major problem.

I think going for a fortnight is much better value for money than a week. We normally plan our WDW holidays in pairs: first trip will be at the end of August, and the second trip will be in the beginning of August of the following year. We each buy annual passes (to Disney and Universal) which cover both holidays. Although this makes the first holiday quite expensive, the second one is much cheaper as there are no entry tickets to buy. When averaged across the two holidays we pay the equivalent of two 5-day hopper passes (one for each holiday) yet have the full benefits of Premium Annual Passes. We then skip a two or three years before planning another pair of Orlando holidays. We think this gives us the best value for money for our meagre holiday budget.

Rob

Thanks all.. given me lots to think about. Really as I say its not the humidity that gets me, its the lightening!!
Just being the two (or occasionally 3 with our 19 yr old DD) does make a dfference, and I think as we go so frequently (it is nice to think of twice in one year) we are less inclined to feel we have to rush around.
But as mmFan says, we have got to the point where we would like a longer stretch.....see I still don't know what to do!

Will probably put it off for a bit then decide in a rush like I always do!
Thanks for your help!!

That is quite a tough decision to make, there are pros and cons to both:D

If it was me, I think going in June and October would just edge it though:rolleyes:
