Before I begin please know I'm not sure what is acceptable in my situation below. I'm not trying to break any rules, that is why I'm asking for advice.

Wife, daughter, myself & daughter's friend (daughter & friend are both 20) will be vacationing in Disney World for a week very soon. We are currently booked at the Yacht Club Resort. A huge part of why we chose this resort is that we plan to spend a lot of time at the pool. The friend of our daughter is not sure she is completely comfortable sharing a room with us and I completely understand. My wife and I are covering the cost of the trip as part of a graduation gift, however we are not prepared to spend the money on an additional room at the Yacht Club. Daughter's friend is considering booking her own room at a value resort. The only real snag to our trip is how strict the Yacht Club is with who can utilize the pool. If the friend is not staying with us she is a "no go" at the pool. Currently we have all 4 of us booked on our reservation. If she were to get her own room at a value and we leave her on our reservation she could then technically use the pool. This seems to me however like one of those fine line kind of situations with breaking the rules. I'm trying to work it out in my own head though. If she does not get her own room and does actually stay with us, she can use the pool. I had to pay an additional adult in the room fee to have her and my daughter in our room. If I don't take her off of the reservation and she does book her own room I've still paid the extra adult in the room charge plus she has then paid Disney for her own room so no one is cheating Disney out of any money. The only issue I see is I don't think you are supposed to have your name associated with 2 rooms, (although she is not the lead guest on my reservation). So what are your thoughts? I'm not trying to hurt Disney or anyone else for that matter, just trying to make everyone in my party happy and still be able to enjoy our trip.

Is there any reason she'd use the pool without someone who IS staying in your room (i.e. would it be more likely that she'd go with your daughter, or alone?) - if not then there'd be no need to do anything extra with your reservation, as your daughter who is registered in the room could bring her as a guest. If her name is on the room at the Value that could just cause some records issues because her name would be on two separate reservations.

This isn’t possible at SAB. They have the strictest rules of all of the resorts when it comes to only registered guests being allowed access to the feature pool.

Keeping the friend on the YC reservation is the only way that she can join the OP’s family at SAB. That doesn’t mean that the friend cannot sleep somewhere else. Disney doesn’t care if a registered guests ever actually sleeps in their room.

However, being registered in two rooms at one time can create all kinds of problems with MBs (just visit Pete’s vlog about a recent GF experience)! My advice would be to have the friend book their second room under their nickname or first initial and middle name. Get a separate MB just for opening the door to that room.

Just add her to your reservation, it would cost an extra $15 (maybe $10)/night.

SAB pool is pretty strict with checking MB...you might ask the checker or lifeguard if it's ok.

This is in the sticky thread..

Some of my family/friends are staying at a different resort, or offsite. Can they come to my resort and swim with my family?

Possibly. Disney policy states that only registered resort guests may use the pool, but IF the pool isn't too crowded, and IF you ask, the lifeguards have been known to make exceptions for visiting family and friends.
Of course, the fewer guests you want to bring into the pool area, the more likely the lifeguards will say 'yes'. If you want grandma and grandpa to join you, it probably won't be a problem. If you show up with 4 uncles, 3 aunts, and 14 assorted cousins.....well, expect the lifeguards to suggest you visit a water park instead.

Do ask; it's much better to have the lifeguard's permission ahead of time than to subject your family and/or friends to the embarrassment of being asked to leave.

Be aware that the lifeguards have final say in the matter. If the lifeguards feel that there are an unsafe number of people in the pool area, it's not going to matter if the front desk or the nice lady on the phone at Reservations said you could have guests.

Incorrect. Not at SAB

SAB is very strict with guests. They issue wrist bands, and check everyone who comes to the pool. The odds are not great that they would let you have a guest in the pool.

would book her on your room, and maybe have her name slightly different. If she is a Michelle, list her as Shelly, or something. That way the system won't get confused with her being on 2 different resort rooms.

Honestly, unless her name is something like Jean Jackie Jingleheimer-Scmidt, or Robin Wehadababyitsaboy, at any given time there would reasonably be multiple persons with identical names staying at different resorts.

True. But not with the very same MDE profile. That’s wherein the problem lies. Being registered at two resorts under the same name and the same MDE profile can create problems.

If you're paying for her trip then she should just stay in your room. I understand not being completely comfortable with it, but if someone paid for me to go on a trip to Disney, you better believe I'd get real comfortable with sharing a room. It's not like she's sharing a room with complete strangers as your daughter is her friend and I'm sure she has probably interacted with y'all on an occasion or 2.

I'm guessing you'd be fine as long as she is booked on your reservation. You are paying the extra fee for her to be in your room so she'll have a magicband for the Yacht Club therefore she can use the pool. Where she chooses to actually sleep is her business.

Can you let us know how you've booked the YC room so we can better advise you? Is it a room-only or a package? How are your MDE accounts set up? Are you only using one MDE account for everyone? Or does your DD's friend have a separate MDE account. As others have said, it won't be an issue to have her on the YC room as a guest and on a separate reservation as the lead guest. For the value reservation, you do need to use her legal name in case they check ID at the front desk. For the YC reservation, you could simply change the name to a nickname as PP suggested. For instance, if her name is "Michelle", she could be "Michelle" on the value reservation and "Shelly" on the YC reservation - two separate profiles, two separate MB's - that won't interfere with each other in any way. You could also simply take her off the YC reservation and add her as a day guest just on the days you are going to the pool, which might save you some money on the days you don't go to the pool. But, again, I'm not sure if you've booked a room-only or package. You aren't breaking any rules by doing this. You aren't going over capacity in your YC room nor are you trying to sneak someone in.

This really does not apply to SAB.

SAB is a different "animal".

If you’re paying to keep her on the room reservation then she is a guest there, no? WDW is counting her as part of the occupany. Her name is on the reservation to get her a wrist band each day. Can she use her YC magic band for the whole trip and just get a card to open her value room?

Since you are already paying for her to stay in your room, I'd make sure she was listed as "shelly" on the YC reservation, and make all her MB/FP/ADRs with yours. THEN she can get a room-only reservation as "Michelle" at a value and not set up anything (ADR, FP, etc) on the value reservation. She won't even need to get a magic band on the value reservation; you CAN ask for a key card for the room. That way, she never shows up in an MDE account associated with the value room in her name, only on the YC reservation in her nickname.

Keep her on the reservation and have her use a nickname or ask for a plastic room card instead of a magic band. If you are paying for her she can use the amenities, just as anyone else on your room reservation can.

Frankly I think the larger problem is going to be the logistics of having to coordinate when your DD's friend is staying at a different resort.

I would have her book her own room, then, once onsite, add her as a dayguest at YC resort front desk.

Dayguests typically follow the same occupancy rules (that’s the only way we’ve done it). However, you will not be charged the nightly fee, since dayguests are not considered overnight guests. As your dayguest, she will be given a plastic key card and have access to daily resort amenities only. No EMH, charging privileges, etc.

The process is resort specific/internal, so it will not mess up her MB at another resort. You can also add a different variation of name.
