Buds, I need your expertise. What is this thing? It's growing smack dab in the middle of my garden. Next to it are Coral Bells.
It looks like it would've been planted there. I can't remember what it is. (senior moment turned seasonal)
Help, should I pull it or let it grow?

I have no clue what it is, Deb, but I'd leave it for now. I mean, it looks good, nice form, good foliage. Is it the only one like that? I'd be curious to see how it continues to grow.....:)

leave it awhile and see, it does not look like a weed so maybe it is a self seeded flower.....

It sort of looks like a bushy thai basil. Have you ever picked one of them and smelt it? If in fact it is a basil, you will be able to tell by the aroma.

It does look like basil but not the kind I plant usually. I'll give it a sniff after dinner:)

It is growing in a place (driveway) I've been planting perrenials ad hock. I can't see a label if there is one. Too big and bushy. It kind of looks like it will flower soon, maybe a daisy I thought but then it could be a weed with very good form. Very green and bushy and for now it isn't taking up much space. I can't think of what it could be. I've been to Rutgers site and through my gardening encyclopedia (I do read it for fun, what a dork, I know)

So for now I'll let it grow and see what happens. Last year I let a weed grow and grow until one day I asked a landscaper delivering my dirt and he said it was elephant weed. I liked it.

are really weeds....I have a large stand of Joe Pye Weed and I would not cut it down or dig it up for anyone. Same with my Butterfly weed.

So what I quess I am saying is one man's weed is another man's flower.:sunny: :hyper: :sunny:

Question might be answered.
I think it's Rudbeckia! I've been looking at pictures and visiting garden centers and today I think I found it. If it's not Rudbeckia it might be echinecea.

Absolutely right, Mal. I love my butterfly weed too.

Last year Home Depot was selling Goldenrod for 5.95 a pot!
Makes your point perfectly.

Goldenrod grows wild just about everywhere spread from seed. Living in the country I've had to know where it is at all times. I'm extremely allergic to it.
IMH allergic O Goldenrod is a weed.

I'm reading this thread and I'm feeling sorta stupid because I'm saying to myself that it kinda looks like a black-eye Susan plant except the leaves are little fuller than I think they should be (it's dark out now or I might have gone outside and look at my plant for confirmation). I forget Latin names quickly and I'm too lazy to look it up but isn't black-eye susans and Rudbeckia one and the same? If so, now I don't feel so stupid. :hyper:

But then again, come to think of it, I was just at BIL's house today and was asking about his plants (mostly herbs and veggies) and I said, "Oh, I know this one - It's a black-eye susan!" and he told me no, it was something else, but I forget now what he said! ...... Maybe I'm back to feeling stupid again. :jester:

No you're not stupid, you might be right on.
Besides, princesses are never stupid.
They have people for that

I went to the nursery and compared it to their Rudbeckia and their Echinecea (sp?) and thought that's what it was just by comparing the leaves.

Yesterday a friend was here and she said "oh look you're growing Black Eyed Susans" to which I said stupidly "I am?"
