Is this a good plan for renting?

I've been doing my homework on renting points for several months now but want to clear up some things before I search for someone to rent from.

  1. How important is it to find someone with AKV as their home resort during a not very busy time? I frequently scan the rent/trade boards and I don't see AKV as a home resort very often. The point value there is just incredible to me.
  2. Before I try to find someone via the rent/trade board, I was going to post something on my Facebook page asking my friends/family (I keep my "friends" list intimate) if they know anyone who is a DVC owner that may be interested in renting their points. If I get some bites this way, should I expect to pay about $10 as they do on the rent/trade board? If the DVC owner asks what I'm interested in paying, should I request below $10 or would that simply be insulting?
  3. Should I try to find an owner shortly before the 11 month window opens or wait until it opens? I'm assuming that I should wait because it seems doubtful that someone is going to "hold" their points for me until the window opens for my dates so they can verify availability. Am I analyzing that correctly?

Thanks for your help. The DVC boards have given me lots of valuable information that could save my family big $$$$ on our next vacation with accomodations that we otherwise would have to pass up.

PS - I tried my hardest to write this without violating any rent/trade rules. I hope I succeeded!:flower3:

The only one I can answer is #1 yes you should try a AKV owner if you want a value room or concierge.

If you are looking at renting at 11 months out you should expect to be paying at least $10 a point- people normally only rent below that level to close friends or on distressed points at 11 months the points are not distressed. I wouldn't rent for $10 at 11 months myself but then I am always suplementing my points with stays at the Dolphin since I don't have enough for all our stays.

I would say if you know what you want and when you should find someone before the 11 month window- while they are saving their pioints as long as you are willing to take what they can get at AKL then they know there points are taken care of and if they were planning on using them- they wouldn't be renting them out.
